I started posting in GFC Portland thread and it was suggested that I start a build thread.
Sam Devlin in Olympia is building this boat for me. It is constructed of high quality Meranti and Occume plywood laid up in layers with epoxy, fiberglas cloth, more epoxy, etc. The hulls are light and strong being about 1" thick below the waterline. The 33'10" boat will displace #10,800.
The design is by Sam with a fair amount of input on the looks only. I admired the lobster boat profile and practical plan and wished to couple that with a boat that would be comfortable the 1.5 knots trolling for salmon or 25 knots cruising (with a decent ride). Sam has built several lobster looking boats but with bottoms that are better for the Puget Sound. The prior boats have had a lower profile and have been inboard powered with a little less power.
Our primary use is day boating but the boat can sleep two and has rudimentary cooking, bathing and storage capabilities. We trap crabs and prawns and fish for salmon, also enjoy just cruising around and seeing the world from the water. Likely it will stay in Rosedale part of the year and Seattle part of the year. We are ordering the Mercury Verados this week and the boat should be in operation by mid summer.Late Summer Early Fall 14 016.JPG121014 Boat Roll Over top down.jpg
