IBM is seeking an experienced Accessibility Engineer who will own the IBM Accessibility Checklist guidance. Candidate will be focused on working with IBM Design, hardware, software, and services teams to meet accessibility compliance guidelines. Candidate should be experienced in publishing and editing content, compliance tooling and guidance, iOS and Android mobile development, Javascript, HTML5, CSS, and Web Accessibility Initiative – Accessible Rich Internet Applications (WAI-ARIA). Candidates should also have experience with Section 508, Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.0, and be familiar with the Section 508 Refresh.
Experience with iOS Accessibility Application Programming Interface (API), User Interface (UI) Automation Accessibility API enablement for custom controls, Java accessibility and Microsoft Active Accessibility (MSAA), IAccessible2 API, and Scalabe Vector Graphics (SVG) familiarity a plus.
Upon hire, the candidate will:
• Update the Accessibility checklists to include guidance from the Section 508 Refresh.
• Participate in accessibility standards work.
• Work with the IBM Design teams to create accessible design tools, standards, and work products.
• Work with and investigate mobile platforms, mobile authoring tool Worklight, as well as open source Javascript UI component libraries, and platform Assistive Technologies to create enterprise-wide guidance on how to make those technologies accessible to people with disabilities and compliant with accessibility standards
• Work with IBM Design community to contribute accessibility support to open source Web UI toolkits, such as Dojo and jQueryUI,
• Develop sample accessible applications, both on mobile and web platforms
• Develop design requirements for next generation hybrid mobile application accessibility test tools being created at IBM Research
• Help drive open web accessibility standards
• Present leading edge work at accessibility related conferences
• Consult with all IBM Divisions on accessible development techniques and processes
• Create and deliver education
• Participate in Accessibility standards activities
• Provide accessibility testing with Job Access with Speech (JAWS), Dragon Naturally Speaking, ZoomText, MAGic, VoiceOver, TalkBack, and other assistive technologies.
• Maintain the IBM accessibility guidelines
• Contribute to the IBM accessibility strategy
