2016-01-01

As the new year is upon us, a lot of Nintendo fans (myself included) are looking forward with hope to the releases planned for 2016.

I have here with me a list of confirmed Nintendo releases for 2016 to increase hype for the company and its franchises! Here’s what we can look forward to:

Mario and Luigi: Paper Jam

I’ve not heard much about this game, but I’ve been a fan of the Paper Mario games for a long while now, so I’m interested as to how Nintendo will put the brothers on the 3DS in all their papery glory.

Next up is Bravely Second: End Layer, the sequel to Bravely Second.

Whereas I’ve played Paper Mario before, I didn’t even hear of Bravely Second (even though the North America version came out February of last year) until I heard of this sequel. It looks pretty good, and when I saw the cover art it reminded me of the Fire Emblem games.

Speaking of Fire Emblem! If you’re anything like me, you are so stoked for Fire Emblem Fates to come out in February.

Just take a look at that artwork… I love this piece of art because it has the Birthright and Conquest versions of the game (I preordered Birthright). Fates is the 15th game in the series, and the 2nd to appear on the 3DS. Revelation will be available for purchase via dlc on July 9th.

Now that I’m all calm from my Fire Emblem high, let’s talk about another classic:

Star Fox Zero!

This new title for a classic game will be released on March 2016, and will utilize the WiiU gamepad for a first-person view when in your Arwing, or your tv for a third-person view. The original Star Fox was released in 1993 for the SNES. 23 years later, Fox, Slippy, Peppy and Falco return to the gaming community, glorified in beautiful 3D.

Next on the list is Metroid Prime Federation Force.

The Metroid games have always been a favorite of mine because I loved all of the powerups that you can attain throughout the course of the game. I remember being so excited when the rumored release of a Metroid game a few years back, but I am glad that this game will be a cooperative. It should tide us over until a fully-fledged Metroid game hits the shelves.

Next up is Pokkén Tournament!

Now we’re really getting to the heavy hitters, aren’t we? Pokkén Tournament is going to be a arcade fighting game, similar to – hey know you guessed it – Tekken! Take control of your favorite Pokémon and fight…other Pokémon in the ring!

I have saved (in my opinion) the best for last. I’ll be writing about the three Legend of Zelda 2016 releases in the order for which I’m excited about them.

First up we have Hyrule Warriors: Legends!

As we can see from the picture, as well as official Nintendo videos, there are going to be a few additions to the fighter roster with the release of Legends. Tetra, King of Red Lions, Toon Link, Skull Kid and Linkle all join in the fighting! Linkle will also join the WiiU version’s fighter roster when the game is released.

The next Zelda game released is The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD!

This game was originally released in 2006 on the Gamecube and Wii, and will make its return ten years later on the WiiU! I don’t know about you all (and all the haters and skeptics out there) but I am genuinely excited for this remake to be released. Not only will graphics be better, but Amiibo capability will be added, with Nintendo offering a bundle for the release, with a Wolf Link amiibo. This game is to be released March 4th.

Now, last but not least, is Zelda U!

While I was a little let down and upset when Nintendo announced their pushing back this title until 2016, I’m really hoping they’ve taken this time to really work through any problems and kinks that they may have come across.

We’ve seen a bit of footage for the game, namely this trailer from E3 2014 showcasing what we may have to look forward to for this game. All I can really say is that if it doesn’t deliver on the hype and waiting that have been grown and forced upon fans, Nintendo will have a lot of angry gamers on their hands.*

*But really, is that a possibility? After the flop that was Triforce Heroes, I should think that Nintendo would want to make their next original title be the best it can be.

So what are you all excited for this new year? Add your thoughts about these games, and any other games you may like in the comment section below!
