It seems like YG Entertainment will be adding another girl group to their existing idol groups roster.

South Korean media outlet Star News reported that the entertainment powerhouse has plans to debut the new girl group this summer, ideally before September.

According to Star News, a prominent source from YG Entertainment revealed:

YG’s new girl group is aiming for a summer debut, before September. This girl group consists of talented members who have all trained for a minimum of 3 years.

Of course, CEO Yang Hyun Suk is known to be a perfectionist when it comes to music, and he is regularly checking up on them. So their debut plans may change, but as of now, it is highly likely that they will debut this summer. CEO Yang wants this girl group to win the best female artist award at the end-of-the-year award ceremonies, along with iKON’s best male artist awards.

(The girl group will be) completely different from anything in the Korean music scene until now.

Kim Jennie and Kim Ji Soo, both of whom have been featured in G-Dragon‘s tracks, are said to be confirmed as members of the unnamed girl group. However, “K-pop Star 3″ finalist Jang Hanna, who was recently featured in Jinusean’s comeback track after the 11-year hiatus, will not be in the final line-up because the CEO has plans for her to debut as a solo artiste.

This is not the first time that YG Entertainment has issued information to the media regarding the new girl group.

In 2012, a video titled “Future 2NE1 (4 years later)” was uploaded by the company on YouTube, fueling speculations that the girl group will be modelled after 2NE1 and will debut in the same year. He also released a press statement stating:

Everything about the new girl group that we’ve prepared for so long will be revealed on 15th January.

Then in 2013, Yang Hyun Suk said that the girl group will be in debuting the girl groups members one-by-one starting from October.

From October, we will be debuting 1 or 2 members at a time to see whether they are apt for the public. (…) In a nutshell, each member makes a debut first, and then they will come together to form a group.

In 2014, rumours emerged that the girl group will be named “Pink Punk” and the members were in their final stages for their grand debut. Sources reported that the group will make their debut in November.

However, all the dates came and passed without any updates from YG Entertainment. Hopefully, this time around, the report will turn out to be true.

YG Entertainment is also preparing for iKON‘s debut, followed by Lee Hi, Akdong Musician, and Epik High‘s comebacks. Jinusean is currently promoting with “Tell Me One More Time” while BIGBANG is promoting with their double title tracks,”Loser” and “Bae Bae“.
