AWARENESS WEEK:
Monday: Upperclassmen to visit Freshmen Activity Blocks to introduce themselves and talk about the week’s events.
Tuesday: Operation Jungle Red: wear red to promote awareness of violence in our culture
Wednesday: Breast Cancer Awareness Day: wear pink to promote awareness of the issue of breast cancer and the importance of early detection
Thursday: Mix-It-Up Lunch: we will encourage students to change their seats in the cafeteria to get a different perspective
Friday: “Stand Up” Assembly: a short video will lead to an opportunity for students to “Stand Up” and share their experiences of when an “unaware” comment produced pain and difficulty for them. We are planning to dismiss students to their advisories from this program to allow for some debriefing of the event.

COLLEGE PLANNING NIGHT:
On Thursday, October 24th, the Counseling Department will hold a College Planning Night for all 9th, 10th, and 11th grade students and parents. This presentation will cover the college search process, what to look for in a college and what students can be doing now to optimize the chances of being admitted to a first choice college. The workshop will begin at 6:30 pm in Room 133 at the high school.

SPORTS AWARDS:
The Fall Sports Awards Night is scheduled for Wednesday, November 13 at 6:00 pm. The program will take place in the Auditorium with a dessert social following in the cafeteria.
BOYS SOCCER:
For today – Wednesday, Oct 23 – No Boys Soccer Practice.
GIRLS SOCCER:
On Thursday the Girls Soccer Team will celebrate Senior Night. They will play Northwestern at 3:45 pm.
VOLLEYBALL:
On Thursday, the Volleyball will play away at Amistad Academy. Team will leave after school.
MOVIE NIGHT:
Come join the Housatonic Student Government Association in their showing of “HalloweenTown” on Friday, October 25 in the Auditorium. Doors open at 6:45 pm and the showing will begin at 7:00 pm. Free Admission! Refreshments will be sold.
HOUSATONIC’s HAUNTED HIGH SCHOOL:
Join us at Housatonic Valley Regional High School for a chilling excursion through the Haunted High School! On Saturday, October 26 from 7-9 pm. Admission is $7.00 for the Haunted High School or $10.00 for Haunted High School & Haunted Ride. Must be 13+ years old to attend or have a parent’s permission at the door!
HOUSATONIC’S HALLOWEEN BASH:
Join us an evening of fun and games on Saturday, October 26 in the HVRHS Cafeteria. There will be activities, fun prizes and refreshments from 4-6 pm. Admission is $5.00 and all ages are welcome!
A REMINDER TO SENIORS:
The deadline for the Class of 2014 White Oak Yearbook advertising campaign is November 1. This is your opportunity to earn a free yearbook while helping the senior class raise money that will go directly towards the cost of producing your class yearbook. Information was distributed in advisory groups. See Ms. McLeod if you have any questions. In the meantime, let’s sell some ads!
AUDITIONS FOR THIS YEAR’S HVRHS MUSICAL:
The Auditions for “Hello Dolly” will be Friday, October 25 from 2:30-5:15 pm and Thursday, October 31 from 2:30-5:15 pm. Call backs will be Friday, November 1 from 2:30-5:15 pm. A sign-up sheet for all three events will be posted in the high school main office and a copy of the script available in the Library for anyone who would like to read it.
KITCHEN TOUR:
This year’s Housatonic Musical Theatre Society’s 11 Annual Kitchen Tour will be Saturday, November 2 from 10 am to 4 pm. Advance Tickets are $35.00 – available online at HMTS.ORG or at the following stores: Kent Pharmacy, Salisbury Pharmacy or Sharon Pharmacy. Day-of tickets are $40.00.
SKI CLUB:
Please see Mr. Lazzaro for forms to ski and snowboard at Catamount this winter. The deadline for returning the forms is November 1st.
NCCC Partnership Program:
As part of our Partnership Program with NCCC, Juniors and Seniors can get a jump start on their college education by taking FREE college courses while in high school. With the partnership program, students with a B or better average can take two college courses and earn up to 8 college credits per semester at Northwestern Connecticut Community College. These credits can be used towards your degree at NCCC or be transferred to a number of four year institutions, saving you hundreds of dollars in tuition costs. Interested students should see Ms. McLeod or your guidance counselor for more information. Registration deadline for the spring semester is November 15.
2013 YEARBOOKS:
The 2013 yearbooks are in; if you ordered a copy you can pick it up at the high school main office. There is a limited number of extras books if you did not purchase one you can still do so for $65.00.
