A simple still life shoot is the perfect format to showcase stand out pieces in their purest form, but sometimes things are just a little…static. We thought it was time to put a different spin on the format by shooting our favourite pieces for AW14 as GIFs…

JIL SANDER

Jil Sander has come a long way since its launched in Hamburg back in 1973, but the label’s consistent minimalist aesthetic have kept them relevant up to now. After leaving her own label for the third time around, Jil Sander has named Rodolfo Paglialunga as the new creative director for the brand, after producing the AW14 collection without a creative director in place. Paglialunga’s impressive CV boasts previous stints as creative director of Vionnet and womenswear design director at Prada back in April. His first designs for the label will debut with the Spring 2015 collection showing this month at Milan Fashion Week, “my aim is to carry forward the fusion between sophistication, luxury and innovation and bring the house into the next level.”

The fashion house is well known for their simple but effective arm candy; the infamous autumn winter 2012 Vasari ‘paper’ bag, which was made out of 100 per cent coated paper sold out all over the world, and the Jil Sander acetate shopper bag which was an instant hit selling out back in 2011. And last year, we saw the launch of the Jil Bag, a classic holdall with removal shoulder strap that comes in various colours and finishes every season.

The iconic bag makes its most powerful yet simple design statement this AW14, using precious materials such as ostrich, crocodile and snakeskin.

Colours are bright in yellow, purple and blue. The shiny hand-painted goat skin is a standout int he collection, embodying the artisanal tradition and avant-garde looks Jil Sander is known for.

3.1 PHILLIP LIM X LINDA FARROW

Linda Farrow is definitely a game-changer when it comes to luxury eyewear, as Linda’s son Simon Jablon and Tracy Sedino successfully relaunched the brand just over ten years ago. Originally established in the 70s, Linda Farrow was the first to treat sunglasses as fashion, producing innovative styles and original shapes. And 40 years on, design duo Jablon and Sedino take inspirations from Linda’s original designs from her extensive archive of 2000 designs.

What makes Linda Farrow relevant and current is their ongoing collaborations with an extensive list of young fashion houses: Dries Van Noten, Erdem, Jeremy Scott, and Kriss Van Assche to name a few. A highlight for this is their collaboration with New York-based brand, 3.1 Phillip Lim. Launched in 2005, Phillip Lim delivers classic silhouette with a modern and youthful twist, making him a perfect collaborator for Linda Farrow.

The PL11 is the ultimate 60s sunglasses you can covet. A carried-over style from last season, these perfectly round-lens sunglasses are understated yet bold, which comes in subtle colour-way for the AW14 collection: Vanilla, frosted khaki, dark chocolate, frosted mauve, and our favourite, the black acetate with yellow chrome lenses. 3.1 Phillip Lim’s streamlined aesthetic and Linda Farrow’s vintage edge make the collaboration seem like a match made in heaven.

MARNI

Founded by Consuelo Castiglioni in 1994, Marni happened as somewhat of a happy accident. Wanting a side project to her husbands fur business Castiglioni created non-traditional fur coats in contemporary styles using fur as a fabric. Fast forward a decade later and Marni has firmly secured itself as an industry favorite; its distinctive image can be summed up as an eclectic vision of graphic and rigorous designs, with a quirky and subtly subversive sense in fashion.

The trendsetting brand is boasting clashing colourful prints, unusual shapes and pairings; think leggings and clunky shoes. They’re not one to go on trend, offering a more masculine style footwear for women, resulting to a playful and quirky designs. This season’s lace-up leather moccasins aren’t for the weak-hearted, available in rich green and burgundy with removable golf-style fringes. These statement shoes are bold yet fun, staying true to Marni’s effervescent signature look.
