“I understood the vagaries of circumstances to rise tall not by material richness but by ethical values of life. Whenever i see government school children in rural and slums area, i find one common problem. Almost all the children lack highly in knowledge and education. Even a 5th class student doesn’t know how to read a book. Their condition really hurts me. This is why i decided to change my society.
I started an Initiative, PEHAL, a place where everyone can get a chance to uplift their knowledge, in December 2013 with four children all coming from poor family background (some children are rag picker and some are beggars). While they were living their life like an animal, depending and living on the mercy of others, i thought Education for them is the only one weapon to fight such situation and take them out of it.
When i started teaching them, I had only one dream. Dream of a world where poverty would not stand as a hindrance to one’s education. I had started my journey as a social worker but now I’ve turned into a social entrepreneur. I’m trying to solve society’s biggest problem for middle and lower class people that is – quality of education. Through my startup, I try to provide them with quality education on nominal charges that’s ₹2 each day in our digital class room.
Sometimes, it is really difficult to make people understand what i am doing. Everyone who knows about my idea, they simply tell me that many people came and left but no one was able to change the face of this section of society. My community people always criticize me and tell me to forget everything. They advise me to prepare for the government job. But I don’t listen to their voice or mind their remarks.
I keep going despite facing challenges because i feel, that if I’m educated, i should try educate those who couldn’t have this chance. Because knowledge only increases when you share it with others. Children smile when they learn something form me and explain to their family saying, “see i know how to read a book”.
Truly, only a life lived for others is a life worthwhile!”
