There are many American holidays sprinkled throughout the year, but Columbus Day is among the most important. Without Christopher Columbus, there would be no America as we know it today.
If you are among the workers who get Columbus Day off, you might have plans to catch a local parade or football game. Perhaps you plan to squeeze in a barbecue during these waning days of mild weather.

You might also intend to use your free time to make a run to your local bank. However, Columbus Day is observed as a Federal Reserve Bank holiday, which usually means banking institutions are closed. Fortunately, some banks will keep their doors open during the holiday. They include the following:
Chase, Wells Fargo and Other Banks Open on Columbus Day 2015
American Chartered Bank: Columbus Day is one of the few national holidays that this Chicago-based bank remains open.
American Interstate Bank: Bank hours at branches in the Omaha, Neb., area are open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Chase Bank: All of the bank's walk-in branches are open.
Key Bank: All branches located in Utah will be open.
Southside Bank: All grocery store walk-up locations for this Arlington/Dallas-area bank will be open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
TD Bank: All TD Bank locations are open.
Union Bank & Trust: The bank's Falmouth, Va., branch will be open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., and the Tappahannock Wal-Mart branch will have bank hours from 9 a.m. to noon.
U.S. Bank: Some branch locations will be open. All of U.S. Bank's grocery store annexes will also be open for the holiday, but hours might vary according to store location.
Wells Fargo: The bank and each of its live branch locations will be open for business as usual.

Banking Alternatives on Columbus Day
If your regular bank is closed on Columbus Day, ATM services as well as online and mobile banking are still available for paying bills. You can also use those services to make check and cash deposits, withdrawals and money transfers. If your local bank isn't listed above, call it and verify its hours for Columbus Day. Some banks might be open for limited hours during the holiday.
Remember: you may still be able to do business at a bank open on Columbus Day even if it is not the bank you typically use. But if your transactions can wait another day, it is best to hold off, since out-of-network banking often carries withdrawal fees and other costs.
