POUGHKEEPSIE – Rebuilding Together Dutchess County (RTDC), an affiliate of the leading national nonprofit in safe and healthy housing, in partnership with Abilities First, recently completed a project as part of the newly launched Non Profit Repair Program.

The program was introduced to assist local non-profit agencies with facility repairs and renovations, allowing them to focus their resources on their vital community programs. This program is an expansion of the RTDC organization’s Rebuilding Day Program and emphasizes their mission of being a strong community revitalization partner.

Over thirty volunteers came out on Saturday, June 4 to paint the exterior of an Abilities First residential facility in Poughkeepsie. The work was completed quickly and efficiently which lead to the ability for a few of the volunteers to take on some additional light landscaping. Volunteers that day represented multiple companies and organizations from throughout Dutchess County.

“As a not-for-profit, we are extremely appreciative of the volunteers who took time on a Saturday helping to beautify one of our residences so we may direct our limited resources to those we serve,” said Melissa McCoy, Abilities First Chief Advancement Officer. “The impact that RTDC and the volunteers made was felt as some of the residents came out to thank them for their work as the project was completed. We are grateful to RTDC for this opportunity to enrich the lives of those in our community.”

Since 1992, Rebuilding Together Dutchess County has brought volunteers and communities together to improve the homes and lives of low-income homeowners, completing critical home repairs, accessibility modifications and energy efficiency upgrades for over 470 homes throughout Dutchess County. Their not-for-profit partner, Abilities First, serves individuals with developmental and intellectual disabilities by providing them and their families with support to attain independence, self-determination, integration and acceptance by others through education, exploration and experience.
