Vivian Adelberg Rudow, Peab '57 (Cert), '60, '79 (MM), released a CD titled Sound Portraits: Orchestra, Chamber and Electro-Acoustic Music in 2013.

1961

Alan E. Freeland, A&S '61, HS '68, '69, '70 (PGF), received the Pioneer in Hand Surgery Award in 2013 from the International Federation of Societies for Surgery of the Hand. Freeland is a distinguished clinician and professor emeritus at the University of Mississippi Medical Center.

1963

Bentley Orrick, A&S '63, is a retired print reporter enjoying the "slow lane" near Millington, Maryland, with his wife Carol. Rowing crew and singing tenor in the Chester River Chorale are his main occupations now.

1967

Edward R.B. McCabe, A&S '67, was named senior vice president and medical director for the March of Dimes Foundation in 2012. McCabe previously served as executive director of the Linda Crnic Institute for Down Syndrome, the Anna and John J. Sie Endowed Chair in Down Syndrome Research and Clinical Care, and professor in the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Colorado School of Medicine.

Robert "Yank" Yankowitz, A&S '67, retired in 2012 from his role as chief operating officer of The Bridge in New York City. Yankowitz, whose career in psychiatric rehabilitation spans more than 40 years, continues to consult. He splits his time between his homes in Millburn, New Jersey, and Harwich, Massachusetts, as he explores his growing role as grandfather.

William Hunt, A&S '68, is a physician practicing family medicine in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. He and his wife of 39 years, Tess, have five grandchildren. The couple enjoys boating on the Chesapeake Bay.

1970

William I. Brustein, SAIS Bol '70 (Dipl), SAIS '71, was awarded the 2013 Charles Klasek Award by the Association of International Education Administrators. Brustein is vice provost for global strategies and international affairs and a professor of sociology, political science, and history at Ohio State University.

1977

Thomas DallaPalu, Engr '77 (MS), vice president for national consulting firm Dewberry, oversees civil engineering and surveying services in the Baltimore region. He was awarded Dewberry's Harold Williams Award in 2013 for his career achievements and more than 40 years of service.

Ross J. Kelbaugh, A&S '77 (MLA), president of Historic Graphics, was among the expert appraisers who appeared in the fourth season of Maryland Public Television's program Chesapeake Collectibles, which premiered in January. An expert in all aspects of 19th- and 20th-century photographs, prints, textiles, decorative arts, collectibles, and militaria, Kelbaugh joined the program in 2012.

Sarah E. Thomas, A&S '77 (MA), '82 (PhD), was elected in 2013 as a member of the American Philosophical Society, founded in 1743 by Benjamin Franklin for the purpose of "promoting useful knowledge." Thomas is vice president for the Harvard University Library.

1978

Dennis Bone, Ed '78 (MS), received the New Jersey Utilities Association's Distinguished Service Award in June 2013 for his accomplished career in the utility and service sectors. Bone was president of Verizon New Jersey before he retired in 2012 to serve as the inaugural director of the Feliciano Center for Entrepreneurship at the School of Business at Montclair State University.

Rick Nelson, Engr '78, returned to Houston in 2013 after 13 years working in London and Cairo. Nelson is exploring prospects in Paleogene oil discovery trend in Gulf of Mexico.

1986

Judith L. Batenburg, Engr '86, was named one of Computerworld's 2013 Premier 100 IT Leaders. Batenburg is vice president for information technology infrastructure and operations at Starz Entertainment.

Philip Gordon, SAIS Bol '86 (Dipl), '87, '91 (PhD), joined the National Security Council as special assistant to the president and White House coordinator for the Middle East, North Africa, and the Gulf region on March 11, 2013. Gordon previously served as assistant secretary of state for European and Eurasian Affairs.

1987

Nancy Lawler, Engr '87 (MS), retired in 2013 from the National Security Agency, where she was a computer systems researcher. She previously taught computer science and mathematics at Coppin State University in Baltimore.

Edward W. "Ted" Smith, A&S '87, a financial adviser at UBS Financial Services in Baltimore, was named to the inaugural Financial Times Top 400, a list of top financial advisers in the U.S.

1988

William LaPlante, Engr '88 (MS), was appointed principal deputy assistant secretary for Air Force Acquisition with the U.S. Department of Defense. LaPlante previously served as portfolio director for the Mitre Corporation's Missile Defense Agency work program.

Maria Luzarraga-McDonough, Nurs '88, lives in Dallas and serves as the chief operating officer for Dallas Renal Group. She had three children: Matthew died while serving in the U.S. Army; Alexandra is currently serving in the U.S. Marines; and Jennifer is a college student. Luzarraga-McDonough sends greetings to her former classmates.

William Narrow, SPH '88, is associate director of the division of research for the American Psychiatric Association.

1989

Alicia B. Harvey-Smith, Ed '89 (MS), was appointed president of River Valley Community College in New Hampshire in 2013. She and her husband, Donald, a police officer, are excited about this new chapter in their lives.

Otto Immel, A&S '89, was named one of two 2013 Economic Partnership Volunteers of the Year by the Greater Naples Chamber of Commerce. Immel is a partner in the Naples, Florida, branch of national law firm Quarles & Brady LLP.

1990

Eugene Stakhiv, Engr '90 (PhD), was presented with the Meritorious Civilian Service Medal at a Pentagon retirement ceremony in 2013. Stakhiv retired from the Institute of Water Resources after 44 years with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. He currently serves as an adjunct associate research engineer with the Johns Hopkins University Whiting School of Engineering.

1993

Kerri Bertolini, A&S '93, works as a program manager for North Shore-LIJ Health System streamlining patient access across hospital facilities, clinics, and physician offices. Her husband, Joseph A. Bertolini, A&S '93, is a manager of patient accounts at the same health system.

Richard L. Skolasky, A&S '93, SPH '08 (ScD), was promoted in 2013 to the rank of associate professor of orthopedic surgery at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine.

Zabelle Zakarian, SPH '93 (ScD), is serving as a Peace Corps volunteer in Kenya. Zakarian previously worked at the National Institutes of Health.

1994

April Arford, Ed '94 (MS), works as an administrator at the Forbush School in Prince George's County, a facility for students with disabilities run by Sheppard Pratt Health System. Arford previously volunteered as a mediator with the Community Mediation Center of Southern Maryland while enjoying her twins' first year of college and cheering on her daughter at Special Olympics.

Ethan J. Skolnick, A&S '94, is a lead sports writer covering the Miami Heat for Bleacher Report and Turner Sports. Skolnick previously wrote for The Palm Beach Post, the South Florida Sun Sentinel, and the Miami Herald.

1995

John P. Grant, A&S '95, serves as a senior adviser of governmental affairs for law firm Husch Blackwell's Washington, D.C., office. Previously, Grant was president of J.P. Grant.

Carla M. Koretsky, A&S '95 (MA), '98 (PhD), was named dean of the Lee Honors College at Western Michigan University in July 2013. Koretsky is a professor of geosciences and previously served as associate dean of the honors college.

Kendra Preston Leonard, Peab '95, presented a lecture at the Fall 2013 American Musicological Society–Library of Congress Lecture Series titled "Myth and Meaning in Louise Talma's First Period Works." Leonard is a musicologist studying this prominent American composer.

1996

John C. Elfar, Engr '96, has been named the 2013 recipient of the Hand Surgeon-Scientist Award by the American Society for Surgery of the Hand. Elfar is an assistant professor in the Department of Orthopaedics and Rehabilitation at the University of Rochester Medical Center.

1998

Stephen Moyer, Ed '98 (MS), was named deputy chief for the Sarasota Police Department in June 2013. Moyer was previously the security director for the University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore and is a graduate of Johns Hopkins' Police Executive Leadership Program.

Jill M. Smith, A&S '98, was awarded a doctorate in sociology from Brandeis University in February. Her dissertation discussed the role of independent educational consultants in the college application process.

1999

Ruben Brooks, Bus '99 (MS), is multifamily hub director for the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. In his role, Brooks leads the Atlanta hub and key Southeast region field offices and housing program centers for HUD's Office of Multifamily Housing. Brooks previously spent 19 years at Fannie Mae.

Peter Hoffmann, Engr '99 (PhD), was promoted to full professor of physics in 2011 at Wayne State University in Detroit. In August 2012, he was appointed associate dean for academic programs in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.

Holly Thesieres Monteith, A&S '99, '10 (MA), her husband, Ian, and their daughter, Morgan, welcomed Reid Vincent, born on December 28, 2013, to the family.

Edward Scott, A&S '99, was appointed senior vice president and managing director for the Hong Kong office of Jack Morton Worldwide. Scott previously served the global brand experience agency in Australia as director of operations.

Leslie Miller Greenspan, A&S '00, served on a merit selection panel in March 2013 to decide on the reappointment of a U.S. magistrate judge of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania. Greenspan is an attorney with the mid-Atlantic law firm Stradley Ronon.

Mher Hartoonian, Engr '00, is an attorney who moved from New York to Denver to join law firm Holland & Hart's intellectual property practice in 2012. In September of the same year, he married Gareen Hamalian. Wedding guests included Peter Y. Davos, A&S '00, Jonathan C. Mark, A&S '05, Kenneth A. Milton, A&S '00, Regang L. Ou, Engr '99, '00 (MSE), and Omar Khan, Engr '02, '04 (MS).

Scott Kobil, A&S '00, practices law with K&L Gates in Newark, New Jersey. He and his wife, Ellen, welcomed their first child, Audrey Regina Kobil, on March 22, 2013.

Matthew Stubbs, A&S '00, and his wife, Jessica, celebrated the birth of their daughter, Ella Alise Stubbs, in April 2013. The baby joined big sisters and Blue Jays fans Zara and Cora Stubbs.

Peter Fuentes, A&S '01, opened the fifth office of Dental Groups of New Jersey in 2013.

Jeremy Gorelick, A&S '01, SAIS Bol '01 (Dipl), SAIS '02, was hired in 2013 as lead technical adviser to the city of Dakar, Senegal, in preparation for launching the city's first municipal bond. Gorelick is an expert in emerging markets bond financing and a professional real estate developer who also teaches an intersession class at the Johns Hopkins University Whiting School of Engineering.

Ashik Mohan, Engr '01, is a musician and engineer. He and his wife, Jenelle, have launched Born of Sound, a company that creates custom artwork from "soundforms," or visual depictions of sound waves.

2003

Sara Alpert, A&S '03, was named president of the Pearl Society, a network of philanthropic women supporting Bay Area Legal Services, a nonprofit law firm that provides legal assistance to low-income residents of the Tampa Bay region.

Jasmine Bridges, Engr '03, was selected to receive one of seven Outstanding Young Manufacturing Engineer awards from SME (formerly the Society of Manufacturing Engineers) on April 9, 2013. Bridges is a manufacturing engineer who works on the P-8 Airplane at Boeing.

Suparna Ferreira, SPH '03, is founder and CEO of Bienestar, a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping low- and middle-income people manage their weight. The project is being piloted in Guadalajara, Mexico. Ferreira previously worked for Sutter Health and oversaw the health care company's international growth exploration.

Garrett Gleeson, A&S '03, is the major gifts program director at the Children's Tumor Foundation. In his role, he helps design giving programs that make lasting impact in the field of neurofibromatosis research and care.

2004

Christine Gedansky, Bus '04, is currently an employee and a patient of the Breast Cancer Program at the Johns Hopkins Kimmel Cancer Center. She and her husband, Lee, have two children. Gedansky sends wishes for good health to friends and former classmates.

Kyle Harrison, A&S '05, is a professional lacrosse player on Team STX of the LXM Pro Tour. His latest lacrosse equipment line, the K18 collection, was released in 2013. Harrison was a three-time All-American midfielder who led the Johns Hopkins University Blue Jays to the 2005 NCAA Division I National Championship.

Michael B. Goldstein, Bus '06 (MS), serves as president of the Maryland chapter of the Appraisal Institute. Goldstein is a principal of Hlubb & Goldstein Valuation Group, LLC, a commercial real estate appraisal and valuation consulting firm.

Tonya Matthews, Med '06 (PhD), became president and CEO of the Michigan Science Center in Detroit on October 15, 2013. Matthews previously served as vice president of museums at Cincinnati Museum Center.

Christopher T. Reed, Nurs '06, '09 (MSN/MPH), was selected as a 2013 recipient of Sheridan Healthcare's $5,000 National Allied Health Scholarship for student registered nurse anesthetists with exemplary clinical and leadership skills.

Virginia Ross, A&S '06 (MLA), started catastrophereadiness.com after experiencing Hurricane Irene. The website features survival tips and information on the urban survival training course she conducts in partnership with the Wilderness School at Nantahala Outdoor Center. The course is held in New York and Baltimore.

Evelyn Yang Garland, SPH '07, was elected to the American Translators Association board of directors in December 2013. Garland is president of translation company Acta Chinese Language Services.

2008

Eric Nystrom, A&S '08 (PhD), received tenure and promotion to associate professor in the history department at the Rochester Institute of Technology, effective fall 2013.

2010

Angelica Evans, A&S '10 (MA), married Jacques Kajiwara in Annapolis, Maryland, on December 28, 2012. She has changed her name to Angelica Kajiwara.

2011

Denis Foretia, SPH '11, and his wife have set up a charitable foundation to spearhead their work in Cameroon. The Denis & Lenora Foretia Foundation seeks to catalyze Africa's economic transformation by focusing on public health, small business and entrepreneurship, science and technology, and the implementation of progressive policies.

John Ihebereme, SPH '11, was appointed permanent secretary of the Imo State Ministry of Health in Nigeria by the governor of Imo state, Owelle Rochas Okorocha, in May 2013.

John McMurry, Bus '11 (MS), is a product manager for European financial institutions at SNL Financial in Charlottesville, Virginia. McMurry recently bought his first home and competes in triathlons in his spare time.
