Mary asks…

If I want to start my own travel agency in my basement I have the office space & furniture?

and 2 brand new computers a phone.
How much money will it cost for me to start a business selling airline tickets to international countries.

How does it work Do I have to invest money to buy the airline tickets 1st before selling them or do I just sell the airline tickets that the airline owns through my computer without investing money to buy the Airline tickets.

How much commission will I make off every $1000 Airline ticket I sell.

NydiaMccartney answers:

Unfortunately, you won’t make much money at all selling only airline tickets. Most airlines cap their commission at a very low rate (sometimes as low as $7.50) per ticket. No matter how much the ticket costs, you’ll never make more than the capped rate per ticket sold.

You don’t have to invest the money up front, but you are responsible for paying the airline regardless. If you take a credit card for payment, and later on that charge is disputed and reversed, you will still owe the airline for the ticket. If you accept a check as payment for the ticket and it is returned for any reason, you’ll still owe the airline for the ticket.

The way most travel agents make money is to sell packages, which include airfare, hotel, car rental, and other activities. Selling cruises is also a lucrative business for the modern travel agent.

The best way to find out more about becoming a travel agent is to visit the web site of the American Society of Travel Agents.

Helen asks…

What kind of hobbies do you recommend for me to take up?

I’m getting old, I turn 20 in September and I’ve been through the video game phase, the knitting phase, the horror movie phase and on and on and on. I feel like an old man, because a few people have pointed out that I have areas of hair that are supposedly grey. I’ve looked in the mirror and honestly, I have seen some grey hair strands here and there, but that’s irrelevant. Although I love tobacco, porn, horror movies, psychology books and hip hop music, I’m looking for a hobby that might be fun.

Here’s what I have in mind; a hobby that may require me to build something, a hobby that will give me a sense of accomplish and achievement, a hobby that will help me learn new skills as I progress, ect. It CAN cost money, but I don’t want it to cost me a fortune. Unrealistically, I’d like to create dioramas of specific landmarks and add my own details, I’d like to build an MP3 player from scratch, I’d like to create ashtrays from scratch, I’d like to make coasters with my own designs, I’d like to build my own computer and on and on and on. I guess what I’m really looking for is something that will teach me a valuable skill (which could possibly open up a career path) or something that could be useful to me in the future. I’d also be interested to hear some of your hobbies, thanks, any help is appreciated.

NydiaMccartney answers:

I am passionate about playing guitar and compose my own songs because I was able to express my emothions and it is very relaxing try http://www.thetopguitars.com and also I like photography, taking beautiful sceneries in different places and country and it is very exciting :) or why not start helping others. You might consider volunteering at your local hospital, hospice, old folk’s home, or nursing home. When you become absorbed in others you will find that your own concerns will evaporate and this will allow you the freedom to move again. Bobby

George asks…

How can I get a good gaming computer for little to no cost?

Im 14 years old and live in pretty much the middle of nowhere. I have a laptop that runs simple games or ones that aren’t too high quality. It‘s the only working computer in my house so i get maybe an hour or so a day. It‘s not a matter of me being lazy and not wanting to earn what i get, because I am more than willing to. The problem is like I said, I live in a really small town. Most adults in my town struggle to find a decent job let alone a 14 year old. I’ve heard all the classics “mow some lawns, or shovel some snow” but those wont cut it. A good gaming rig can cost up to 2 grand and oddjobs like that wont do it. I have school and the after school work that comes with it, so I honestly dont have much time for any other kinds of work. My parents are of no help either given that its not too long after Christmas and the debt that comes with that is still there. I see people on youtube who are more than capable of purchasing their own computer get top of the line hardware for free just because they sey something like “oh i dont like my computer“, well there must be some way to at least get a half price computer or something more manageable than 2 grand. I could go on for days, but i should bring it to a close.

NydiaMccartney answers:

It depends on how crazy you want your computer to be. You can get some great cheap builds for desktops if you know what parts to get. You dont need $2000USD to get a good gaming PC, if I had $2000 I can build a hell of a monster PC complete with liquid cooling and Solid State Drives.

To tell you the truth, even $1000 can get you a pretty impressive computer. I built my gaming rig for $700 personally about 2-3 years ago (ive been adding to it since then, my total build cost is now excess of $1000), and you can easily get something for even cheaper that can run games perfectly well if you choose the right parts. I helped a friend build a kick ass gaming machine for $1200, decked out with a $300 GTX 670 video card, i7 quad core processor and solid state drive.

To help you heres a forum where I go to get advice and get caught up on the best builds for the money. Http://www.reddit.com/r/buildapc/

@ Henry

I thought this was only for domestic flights.

What about international flights?

NydiaMccartney answers:

I believe even if you get commissions from International fights you will not be getting a lot because there are always agencies out there who are able to offer a lower price than you do. In order to compete with these agencies you pretty much will need to lower your price as well which in turn will lower your commission.

A buddy of mine who works in a travel agency told me that their main revenue isn’t from selling airline tickets because they do not get commission from doing it so they just “resell” the ticket at almost the raw price.

Of course if you are not thinking to expand your home business to something really big and are able to stand the low net revenue then you can still do it, just be caution. You are best to write a business proposal and a business plan to guide you through.

However, if you are thinking of starting another kind of business such as retail then let me know, I maybe able to give you a hand since I run retail business myself. You can reach my at my email.

Richard asks…

What is the best priced gaming computer?

I’m currently browsing online sites looking for the best deal on a high-end gaming computer. I have a rough $600-700 budget trying to stick to $700… I have the thought in mind to build my own computer from scratch or buy a desktop such as the Alienware X51. Any information and comparisons are greatly appreciated on parts and computers.

NydiaMccartney answers:

Just build one yourself.

It’s fun, easy, and saves you lots of money.

Here is some good specs for about $700

CPU: Intel Core i5 2500k – $220 (Newegg)

MOBO: ASRock P67 EXTREME4 GEN3 – $150 (Newegg)

GPU: XFX Double D HD-687A-ZDFC Radeon HD 6870 – $160 w/ MIR (Newegg)

RAM: G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 4GB – $30 (Newegg)

PSU: CORSAIR Professional Series HX650 – $110 w/ MIR (Newegg)

CASE: COOLER MASTER RC-692-KKN2 CM690 – $65 w/ MIR (Newegg)

SOUND: OPTIONAL

INTERNET: OPTIONAL (NOT EXPENSIVE)

TOTAL: $735

Obviously you can play around with those specs.

Also, check out other sites like NCIX.US, Amazon, Ebay, and even Craigslist for cheaper parts. I built my computer that would have costed me over $1500 for about half of that price because I found great deals at these sites!

Also, for more information I’d suggest checking out Tom’s Hardware forum.

There a lot of people like you with similar questions, and they’re are more people that have more knowledge in building/OCing computers!

How can I convince my mom to move the computer into my room?

I have a wonderful iMac computer, but its in the kitchen. I’m the only one who uses it too because my mom has her laptop and my brother has his own computer. I like to use garageband and record my own instruments on the computer, but unfortunately i can’t do that because I’m too noisy in the kitchen. I also would like to do school work on the computer in my quiet bedroom. How can I convince my mom to move the computer into my bedroom?

NydiaMccartney answers:

Well if no one uses it in the kitchen then i don’t see why you couldn’t have it in your room, other than the fact that I am guessing the modem is in the kitchen and the wireless router is set up through that computer and that is the most convenient place to have it. It would probably cost much convenience and a little money to put it in your room, maybe you should ask to get a laptop or computer since school is starting.

Chris asks…

What do I need to put together my own computer?

Basically I’d like to know everything I need component wise to build my own computer. Suggestions on what model of a part to buy as to optimize power while not making the cost too high would be apreciated. Thanks!

NydiaMccartney answers:

I Built mine for $500, you need to buy a motherboard: the Gigabyte S Series are really good if you dont have stacks of money. Use 160GB Harddrive NOT 80GB, Get 1 or 2 Gigs of RAM NEVER get 512. Dont spend heaps on the Case aslong as it supplys enough power and its quite it will do.

I have some ASUS Case that i bought for $65.

The Most important part is the CPU, If you want to catch the latest standard get a dual core, a good intro level DualCore CPU is the Pentium D, but if you can afford it jump up to a Core2Duo. Also dont buy a crazy graphics card to start off with, start low and save up for a goodone, i started with a 7100gs and im upgrading to a 8600gts in October.

Betty asks…

What is the best motherboard and cheapest I can get?

I’m trying to build my own computer decent one that doesn’t cost me a lot of money. Any part suggestions ? Specially motherboard

NydiaMccartney answers:

You don’t ask for much do you? Lets see, you want the best board and you want it cheap….

Answer: You want a stolen board.

Your PC will be fast and cheap, but it won’t be decent since it has stolen parts. It could be bad ass, but not decent.
