In the game of love

It takes all you got

Just to keep it moving up

Don’t you wanna reach the top

But heaven seems such a crazy dream

If your heart has room for doubt

You’re neither in you’re neither out

99 1/2 it just won’t do

You gotta give me all of you

Not asking too much of a heart that’s true

So tell me…

Chorus

What’s the name of the game that we are playing

Boy whenever I think that we are winning

Then you roll the dice take a slide

Right back to the one from 99

Is it gonna go on like this forever

Are we gonna to take that last step together

Going round and round and up and down

Feels just like snakes and ladders

Baby don’t it feel like a carousel

Where all the world is rushing by

But when it stops you realize

That you’re right back where you started at

I need a little more than that

It time for us to face the facts

Whether to be or not to be

That is the question so it seems

We’re going nowhere in between

So tell me…

Chorus

What’s the name of the game that we are playing

Boy whenever I think that we are winning

Then you roll the dice take a slide

Right back to the one from 99

Is it gonna go on like this forever

Are we gonna to take that last step together

Going round and round and up and down

Feels just like snakes and ladders

Don’t wanna play this game nomore

I wanna know right now for sure

What am I giving my heart for

Baby I need a little more

Don’t leave me hanging on a string

Now that I gave you everything

Not when I play to win

Snakes and ladders

Chorus (2x)

What’s the name of the game that we are playing

Boy whenever I think that we are winning

Then you roll the dice take a slide

Right back to the one from 99

Is it gonna go on like this forever

Are we gonna to take that last step together

Going round and round and up and down

Feels just like snakes and ladders

Sharon asks…

How does one go about entering the music industry as a solo artists?

The question almost says it all, really. I‘m an 18 year old double bass/baritone singer looking to further my passion now that I am out of high school, but I am not sure where to begin. I have never taken vocal lessons, which seems to surprise some people. I plan on starting vocal lessons soon, but I do not know where to go after that.

I know it is all about “knowing the right people,” but I do not know how I can get them to hear me. It’s not like a band where you can play some avenues and gigs in the local area in hopes of recognition. I‘m not sure where to even perform pop/vocals for an audience. I‘ve only heard of the way bands do it, but not solo artists that are in the pop/vocal genres.

So does anyone know where a solo artist, such as myself, can get a start in the music industry? I know it will take time and I am more than willing to put in the time necessary and more. If it helps any, I plan on attending UC Santa Barbara or San Diego next fall. Maybe someone there can help?

Priscilla62Y answers:

One way is all that luck stuff that you always hear about; another way is work, work, work. Someone in New York once asked Louis Armstrong, “How do you get to Carnegie Hall?”, and he immediately responded emphatically, “Practice, practice, practice!” Lawrence Welk said that the secret to being in the right place at the right time was being somewhere all the time: Get in a couple of bands or create a back-up band for yourself, do some touring, make contacts, hang around people that can help you, otherwise send them a card every now and then. It may sound cold, but why do things or see people that aren’t going to advance your very seldom reached dream? You’ll only be wasting your time. There are alot of great musicians out there, but one or two great singers; a few bands would be happy to share a great singer. Many solo artists come from famous bands. When you get in a band and everyone comes from miles around just to see you, then record companies start taking notice, plus with time people who will see potential in you will do things for you and eventually you’ll have a manager, publicist and booking agent. Don’t be afraid to drop one manager for one who can offer you more, and don’t ever sign a long term contract unless it promises (and you can tell if it can be delivered), the things that you want from the relationship. If you marry a girl and she doesn’t put out, find someone else, if you know what I mean!

Learn popular songs and go to jam sessions in your area. Move around, always have your mind on what you can do to advance your dream. You gotta really love it. If you never get picked up by record companies you should still feel that you have had a great life, otherwise do something else.

Sandy asks…

What are some of your favorite classic rock songs?

90′s music doesn’t count as ‘classic’ rock–try to pick ones from the 60′s, 70′s, or 80′s. Also, when I say rock, I mean rock, not necessarily metal (unless the metal song(s) were mainstream enough to be played on classic rock radio stations). I know a pretty decent amount of the hits, so whoever gives the most that I know will recieve best answer I guess. Thanks ahead of time!

Linda asks…

how can i become Famous fast and easy?

Im board with my life as an average person always made fun of and not very many friends. Im a good actress and singer but i don’t know how to become famous so please help me.

Priscilla62Y answers:

I was going to go ahead and say, dress like a HO, hang out at sleazy hot spots and don’t wear underwear with short skirts and make sure you get out of your car doing a “Britney”….

But some other guy already gave you a similar answer, so I’ll be serious, OK?

As another person said, there is no FAST and EASY. (unless you are a spoiled little rich girl with looks and no brains)

You do not want to be Kim Kardashian or Snookie or any of those freakin’ bimbos. That is no way to live.

A lot of actors (including myself) feel just like you. You don’t need “lots” of friends, you just need a few good friends. You don’t really want to be friends with the “popular” crowd. Most of them are shallow and useless and would stab you in the back at the drop of a hat. Screw them!!

The best friends you will make are the people that take the drama class. Are in the school plays. They are “your type” of people.

A lot of actors are basically insecure. When they play a role, it is easy for them to get out of their shells and be someone else. Then you know what to say. In real life, it can be hard to know what to say in social situations so that “people will like you”..

I know how you feel, but there is NEVER a guarantee that you will be famous, no matter how good you are.

Do not live your life expecting to be famous or even make a kiveing at performing. Always plan to do something in life not associated with that. Learn in school how to do a useful job that you have an aptitude for. Pursue your acting/singing on the side or along side with that.

I always thought I’d be in a pro rock band when I was in my early 20′s. Well…it didn’t quite work out that way and I didn’t finish college, so I was stuck in a manufacturing job with little or no chance of real success. I did eventually play in a pro rock band but not until it was too late, and I didn’t really make enough money to live on music alone.

I’ve been in 3 professional operas. But only as an extra, and again , not much pay.

The only positive I can say is do community theater. School plays, sing in the choir. Anything to hone your skills. But never never expect to be famous. Do it for the love of it. Then you have personal satisfaction, even if the other part of life is boring.

Sorry to say… Life can be a real drag. And it is not all rainbows and unicorns.

Enjoy your youth while you can. Because after you get to be an adult, you gotta work, day after day, for the rest of your life.(or marry a rich guy)

Richard asks…

I’m scared of having a panic attack in front of the class?

Monday I gotta do an oral presentation and I freak out. Like our teacher told us to do a bit today and I was breathing heavy and hyperventilating and sweating and scratching my afm and stuttering

I‘ve had a panic attack because I was so scared of playing in the school concert band again (this happened the night before, just thinking about it)

How do I ensure I don’t have a panic attack? Should I tell the teacher?

Priscilla62Y answers:

Yeah, just tell the teacher about it. She might give you something else to do instead of the speech. I used to kinda be like this but i got over it because now I stand up in front of the class then I look around and smile at the class and take heaps of deep breaths and relax. That helps me to relax and feel comfortable with my presentation. I used to be really bad at speeches but now I get the second highest mark on speeches, Just relax and you will be fine! Trust me, nothing bad will happen! You are just talking to a bunch of people your own age that know you are care for you! Everyone in the class is going to have to do the speech so they will all understand that some people will get nervious and I bet that most of the class is nervous about it! But just face your fear and everything will be fine I promice!! :)

Robert asks…

We are looking for some bouncy/party songs for our wedding?

Can you give us any song ideas for our wedding? We want some bouncy music like Shakira Hips Dont Lie or Beyonce Single Ladies.. Songs which make people get up and dance! Thanks for your suggestions in advance!

Priscilla62Y answers:

If you are having a DJ or band, they should be able to provide the music for you. With a DJ or band, you should only give them a short list (10 songs) of must plays and another short list of “DO NOT PLAYS.” The songs you give them should include all of your special dances. You can give the DJ your musical preference (like what genre you prefer), but if they are professional, they should be able to entertain the crowd. Let them do their job!

If you’re doing the music yourself, make sure you have music from many genres and time periods. This way the music will please all of your guests, regardless of age. The more “modern” songs should be played closer to the end of the night like after the cake cutting. This is done because the cake cutting is considering an appropriate time to leave and many older guests may leave at that time. Also, make sure all the music is appropriate. All songs should be radio edit versions. To make sure a song is appropriate, ask yourself 2 questions:

1) Would my grandmother be ok listening to this?

2) Is it going to be ok if the flower girl starts singing the lyrics of this song at school or home?

Here’s my suggested list:

“Get This Party Started” by Pink

“1 2 3 4″ by Plain White T’s (whatever your 1st dance is)

“I Loved Her First” by Heartland (whatever your Father/Daughter dance)

“You Are the Sunshine of My Life” by Stevie Wonder (whatever your Mother/Son Dance)

“Celebration” by Kool & the Gang

“Rock and Roll All Night” by KISS

“Can You Feel The Love Tonight” by Elton John

“Sweet Home Alabama” by Lynyrd Skynyrd

“Love Shack” by B52′s

“Waiting for Tonight” by Jennifer Lopez

“Open Arms” by Journey

“We Are Family” by Sister Sledge

“Footloose” by Kenny Loggins

“Earth Angel” by the Penguins

“You’re the One That I Want” by John Travolta/Olivia Newton John (Grease soundtrack)

“I Can’t Help Falling in Love With You” by Elvis Presley

“Twist” by Chubby Checker

“Fever” by Peggy Lee

“I Love the Way You Love Me” by John Michael Montgomery

“Oh Pretty Woman” by Roy Orbison

“Electric Slide” by Marcia Griffiths

“Say Hey” by Michael Franti

“Another One Bites The Dust” by Queen

“How Deep Is Your Love” by the Bee Gees

Paul asks…

Just got my braces off, I play the trumpet?

I just got my braces off, and plating the trumpet feels weird now! I know that’s completely normal, but I was wondering if there’s anything I can do to help get used to it fast, because I lost 4 notes of my high range, and when school starts up again I‘ll probably be expected to play first part for most of the marching band music and jazz band music, and I need my old range back to be able to play the music. Any tips?

Priscilla62Y answers:

This is probably not very helpful, but practice, practice, practice. You just gotta retrain your brain to make slightly different muscle tensings and stuff. Just practice a lot lol.
