Lonnie Rashid Lynn, Jr. (born March 13, 1972), better known by his stage name Common (previously Common Sense), is an American hip hop recording artist and performer from Chicago, Illinois. Common debuted in 1992, together with the record “Can I Borrow a Dollar?” and kept a critical underground following into the late 1990s, after which he attained remarkable mainstream success through his work with all the Soulquarians. In 2011, Common established Believe Common Amusement, his own record label imprint as well as in the past has released music under many other labels including Relativity, Geffen and GOOD Music, amongst others.

Common’s first major-label record “Like Water for Chocolate”, received widespread critical acclaim and remarkable commercial success. Its popularity was fit by May 2005’s “Be”, that was nominated for Best Rap Album, at the 2006 Grammy Awards. His best-of record, “Thisisme Then: The Best of Common”, premiered on November 27, 2007.

He also narrated the award winning documentary “Bouncing Cats”, about one guy’s attempts to enhance the lives of kids in Uganda through hiphop/b boy culture. He now stars as Elam Ferguson to the AMC western television series “Hell on Wheels”.
