After a long vacancy, Eater alum Gwendolyn Knapp will replace Phaedra Cook

Since Phaedra Cook’s sudden departure from the Houston Press earlier this year, the alt-weekly’s food section has been without an editor. That will all soon change as a former Eater employee plans to take the helm.

A job posting on Eater NOLA indicates that editor Gwendolyn Knapp will make the move to Clutch City in the coming weeks to take over the gig at the Houston Press. For the past four years, Knapp has covered the New Orleans food scene as editor of Eater New Orleans, and has worked as a freelance food writer since 2008.

Knapp replaces Phaedra Cook, who left the Food Editor gig at the Press in September after a short, three-month tenure. Presumably, the Press will continue to employ freelance food writers for restaurant reviews, as it has since eliminating the full-time critic position in 2014.

After spending the last ten years eating my way through New Orleans, I’m super excited to be joining the team at Houston Press and delving into one of America’s hottest food towns,” Knapp told Eater Houston. She’s scheduled to start her new gig on January 23.
