Former Houston Rockets star Tracy McGrady is now a current Sugar Land Skeeter. The independent, Atlantic League baseball team announced today that McGrady will be on the club’s opening day roster.

T-Mac has been refining his pitching skills that he last utilized as a high school junior, for several months with Skeeters personel and even Roger Clemens. McGrady participated in the Skeeters brief spring training camp in Sugar Land in attempts to make the squad as a non-roster invitee.

The 16-year NBA veteran turned pitcher, will in uniform Thursday night when the Skeeters host the Lancaster Barnstormers at Constellation Field in a 7:05 p.m. start.

“It’s an honor to be a part of this club for the 2014 season,” McGrady said in a statement released by the Skeeters. “To be a part of the team means everything to me and it’s a dream come true. I look forward to coming to the ballpark not only to play the game but to be in the clubhouse building camaraderie with these guys. I am excited to start the journey we’re going to take this season.”

“We are excited about our team this season and having Tracy McGrady as a part of it,” said Skeeters’ Manager Gary Gaetti.

It is presumed McGrady will be used as a reliever.
