The Workshop is a London-born Furniture Design Collective, and is the brainchild of architect Sebastian Mann, co-founder and Managing Director of design agency Minale + Mann. Offering both bespoke furniture to fit any residential or commercial space and exclusive one off Collection pieces. All products from The Workshop acknowledge Mann’s background in architecture, and his team’s obsession with specialist fabrication techniques. Creating an emphasis on shape, texture and finishes makes up the refined industrial signature style.

When did you launch the brand and what was the reason behind it?
With over 12 years’ experience crafting tailor-made furniture design products alongside my design agency Minale + Mann, we decided to branch out in 2013 to bring our furniture design expertise to a wider audience.
What’s your background?
I studied at Bartlett School of Architecture in London after I started to develop an interest in both the form and structure of buildings along with how are people connected to them.
I went on to start my career at various international architecture firms including Woods Bagot & Johnson Pilton Walker Architects. This led to establishing Minale + Mann – our award winning London design agency and sister company to The Workshop.
How many people are involved in the company and what are their roles?
We consist of a team of specialist furniture, product and industrial designers, and carpenters. We design in collaboration with Minale + Mann from our central London furniture studio, bringing a truly unique approach to furniture and product design. Being furniture designers, makers, and architects by trade, we pride ourselves on our attention to detail and feel for space.
2016 is here, where do you plan on taking the brand?
2016 is a big year for The Workshop. We are getting ready to showcase our ‘Well Hung’ Collection at Clerkenwell Design Week in May. We will be showcasing our one off contemporary designed furniture such as the Well Hung Table and our modern twist to a classic piece of furniture – The Bureau. With Bespoke we are in the process of designing a range of Bespoke products that will offer affordable one-off designs to a wider audience.
To date, what has been the highlight since launching?
I am very proud of every designed piece we produce at The Workshop but I am particularly excited to launch our Well Hung Collection in May.
Which city do you feel most at home in, London, Paris or New York?
I was born and bred in London so it’s always been home to me.
Best thing about London to you?
The multi-cultural, multi design layered city.
Most memorable piece of advice given to you?
Reach for the stars and you may just end up on the moon!
In future, how do you plan on expanding the company?
Our focus is both ensuring we provide our bespoke products throughout the UK and continue to launch Collection pieces throughout the year for both UK and international
