Vaught-Hemingway Stadium’s renovations nearing completion at Ole Miss

We’ve followed the progress of the renovations being made to Ole Miss’ Vaught-Hemingway Stadium for much of the offseason, and it’s pretty clear that those improvements are just about completed. Take a look at the panoramic view offered on this recent clip posted to YouTube. The north end zone is completely closed in, and the structure holding the new 104-foot-by-49-foot video board appears complete, too.

Here’s what the progress looked like just a month ago.

It isn’t even close. The Southeastern Conference has one quarterback who has set himself apart from the pack.

Phil Steele acknowledged such in his latest article, featuring the top-15 quarterback situations entering this college football season. Right behind Clemson’s Deshaun Watson at No. 1 is Ole Miss’ Chad Kelly.

“Chad Kelly broke or tied 14 school records in his first year at Ole Miss,” Steele said. “The 6-foot-2, 215-pound senior threw for 4,042 yards (65.1 percent completion, 31-13 touchdown-to-interception ratio) with 500 rushing yards. He has a huge arm, is mobile and threw for 341 yards to deal Alabama its only home loss in three years. His backup should be true freshman Shea Patterson.”

Former Ole Miss receiver intends to support teammate’s daughter

Former Ole Miss wide receiver Donte Moncrief intends to support the daughter of Indianapolis Colts teammate Zurlon Tipton, who was killed after accidentally shooting himself in June, according to ESPN. Moncrief credits his Mississippi upbringing for his decision to help Tipton’s daughter, Zoe, and love her as if she was his own.

“That comes from being from the South,” Moncrief said. “Wanting to help people and always give back. Like my dad always says, it’s better to give than receive. I look at it as if she’s my daughter and I want to make sure she’s well taken care of. I know that’s something he would do for me.”

Moncrief told ESPN that Zoe will be in attendance for the Colts’ Week 1 game against the Detroit Lions at Lucas Oil Stadium. The two players shared a close relationship prior to Tipton’s death.
