DeSoto County students will see a new face around their high schools as Angel Campbell makes her debut as the newest Northwest recruiter. Campbell is the first recruiter whose office is at the DeSoto Center.
Campbell’s duties include recruiting at all of the DeSoto County high schools for Northwest. “The most important aspect of my job is building relationships with the high school counselors, so that I can visit their schools and make presentations to the seniors. I am also working with business and industry and focusing on non-traditional students as well. For example, I leave information at the local libraries for adults who may want to return to school,” Campbell said.
Campbell moved to the area in July 2013 when her husband David was named district dean of Career, Technical and Workforce Education at Northwest. Before coming to Northwest, Campbell served as enrollment specialist, director of the Rankin Testing and Assessment Center and as the FastTrack Program coordinator at Hinds Community College. She earned an Associate of Arts from Jones County Junior College and a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the University of Southern Mississippi.
“We are very grateful for this new position, since we have never had a recruiter housed at DeSoto Center. Being able to have a “go to” person right here on campus who focuses on recruiting efforts in DeSoto County will be invaluable to us. Angel brings a lot of experience to this position, and we are excited to have her at DeSoto Center, promoting the vast number of programs that Northwest has to offer the people of DeSoto County,” said Jeremy Isome, dean of DeSoto Center.
Campbell is enjoying living in DeSoto County and working at the Southaven campus. “The students at DeSoto Center are great,” Campbell said. “The 2+2 program at DeSoto Center provides a wonderful opportunity for students to earn an associate’s degree and a bachelor’s degree in one location.” She also works with Get2College. “Get2College is sponsored by the Education Services Foundation. They offer a comprehensive college planning program to provide a range of information and counseling to students and their families on planning and paying for college,“ Campbell said.
Campbell grew up in Columbia, Mississippi, and graduated from Columbia Academy. She later moved to Hattiesburg before attending college. She enjoys gardening, bargain shopping and decorating. She has two married stepsons, and is expecting her first grandchild in March.
“We are so happy to have Angel as a part of our recruiting team. She is doing an excellent job in DeSoto County, as well as helping with other programs on campus. She is a tremendous asset to our staff,” said Jere Herrington, director of Recruiting.
