A full slate of activities have been announced to celebrate the 70th anniversary of reggae King Bob Marley.

The Bob Marley Group of Companies and corporate partners Digicel unveiled the roster of activities, which will highlight the celebrations during a colourful launch at Digicel’s Corporate headquarters last Tuesday evening.

The activities have already begun with the opening of the musical, Nesta’s Rock — which focuses on the life of a young Marley — at the Philip Sherlock Centre for the Creative Arts at the University of the West Indies. The musical is produced by the Jamaica Musical Theatre Company in conjunction with Tuff Gong.

Nesta’s Rock opened last Friday and will run until February 22nd.

On February 6th, Marley’s birthday, the celebrations will be at his former home-turned-museum at 56 Hope Road in St Andrew.

A number of activities will be taking place throughout the day including a mini-jam session and a series of forums focusing on various aspects of reggae music.

General manager of the Bob Marley Group of Companies Marie Bruce stated that a live album Easy Skanking, featuring Bob Marley and the Wailers will be re-released on February 10th as another part of the celebratory activities.

For its part, Digicel is partnering to stage the free Bob Marley concert on the Kingston Waterfront on February 7th. Artistes including Chronixx, I-Octane, Tarrus Riley, Jermaine Edwards, Marcia Griffiths, and Ky-Mani Marley are set to be on the bill.

The Marley celebrations will continue on February 18th with the One Love celebrity football match.
