Civilian opportunities for Pediatric Occupational Therapist to provide full-time care under the EDIS Program located at U.S. military treatment facilities in the United Kingdom, Germany, Italy, and Portugal.
PEDIATRIC OCCUPATIONAL THERAPIST POSITION DESCRIPTION
Possesses a Bachelor’s degree and five years experience or Master’s degree and two years experience in occupational therapy with relevant concentration in pediatrics for the age group the employee will serve. All Air Force locations require a Master’s degree in Occupational Therapy. For those working in EIS, two years of that experience must be in providing occupational therapy for infants and toddlers with special health care needs or disabilities.
Possesses experience and/or further training in provision of family-centered care using a consultative model.
As a provider of services to school-age children, has experience in serving children in the least restrictive setting.
Licensed in at least one state or territory in the United States, and qualifies for and receives any certification of competence in practices as appropriate under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act, issued by the applicable military department.
Performs screening and evaluation of the children’s level of motor development, including fine and gross motor, sensori-motor, and functional motor skills (activities of daily living) with children from birth through 21 years of age who are suspected of having delays.
Determines presence or absence of delay in motor development or development of appropriate skills in activities of daily living and diagnoses motor patterns responsible for the delay. Determines the need for occupational therapy to address the delay.
Quantifies the level and type of services required and determines developmentally appropriate goals.
For families of children 0-3, the Pediatric Occupational Therapist assists the family in determining priorities, concerns, and goals for the child related to motor skills and activities of daily living. Additionally, participates with the clinic team and family to develop an appropriate service plan. Also ensures that the occupational therapy goals reflect the concerns and priorities of the family.
Provides occupational therapy intervention services to child and family as direct services, indirect services, consultative, home-based treatment plans, or monitoring services.
For children 3-21, the Pediatric Occupational Therapist participates with the CSC team to develop appropriate Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) which address the area of disability and include educationally relevant goals and activities.
Consults and provides technical assistance to other EDIS team members, staff of Child Development Services (child-care center), family child-care providers, and extended family members to develop a comprehensive network of individualized services. Provides teaching and training to family, extended family members, and child-care providers to implement a home-based intervention plan. Provides consultation to preschool teachers and other occupational therapists to ensure a smooth transition from Early Intervention to the special needs preschool.
Provides service coordination for assigned families and serves as a liaison to school-based or other community-based service delivery programs.
Provides written and oral reports and enters patient-specific workload data into approved automated databases.
Conducts child-find activities in collaboration with other medical departments and community agencies.
