The spectacular 17th century De Vere Wotton House, located in Dorking, Surrey, has been restored back to its country house mansion charms following a £6 million refurbishment. Nestled in 13 acres of stunning Grade II listed grounds, it boasts the first Italian garden designed by famous botanist John Evelyn (the inspiration for Crabtree & Evelynn) who lived at Wotton House in the 17th century.

The renovation added an extra 16 suites to the Mansion House, bringing the total number of rooms to 127, all boasting stylish ensuites and fantastic views of either the beautiful gardens or dramatic manor house entrance. Designed in neutral tones and calming greys, guestrooms and suites are adorned with pieces of furniture that blend modernity with tradition to create an enticing English retreat.



All areas of the hotel have been refurbished from public spaces to restaurant and bar, meeting spaces and the spectacular Old Library which is popular for weddings and private dining events. These now exude a classic heritage feel with vintage items such as globes, bound books and antique keys adding character and warmth to the spaces.

For those booking a wedding or event at De Vere Wotton House, the new-look Evelyn Suite, suitable for up to 180 delegates theatre-style or 120 for a banquet, boasts picturesque views of Wotton’s picturesque gardens. The room’s décor provides a sophisticated look with detailing inspired by the building’s rich architecture. An additional 20 flexible meeting and event spaces are flooded with natural light and offer a range of locations to suit every organisers’ needs.



No stone has been left unturned with the gardens welcoming several commissioned sculptures inspired by nature, by Surrey-based artist Emma Stothard. Emma is also known for her willow sculpture which is set within the grounds of HRH the Prince of Wales Highgrove estate. The introduction of Emma’s works marks the start in a series of local artists creating installations, which will be placed across refurbished De Vere Country House Hotels.

Residents living near and staying at De Vere Wotton House will also be able to enjoy classic British fare in a relaxed atmosphere where an organic tree form takes centre stage, bringing outdoor living to the heart of dining. 1877 will offer will be the ideal location for relaxed lunches, romantic dinners or traditional afternoon teas.

The completion of De Vere Wotton House’s refurbishment marks an important milestone in De Vere’s wider multi-million-pound country estate hotel renovation project, which will place the Mansion House at the epi-centre of group’s country property portfolio. At several properties, the gardens will also receive investment with the addition of outdoor dining patios and sculptures, extending the hotels to the great outdoors.

Guests at De Vere Wotton House also have access to a gym, indoor pool, sauna, steam room and tennis courts, as well as a boot room which provides complimentary Hunter wellies in which to explore the stunning grounds.
