This spring, an innovative healthy food and cold press juice concept, SHOT will open in the shadow of St Paul’s. The concept aims to educate, as well as offer a delicious menu, designed to ensure that every ingredient used offers direct health benefits. Brought to London by a nightlife entrepreneur, in partnership with a Citigroup veteran and Oxford biologist, SHOT’s cutting edge approach to healthy eating, designed by a leading London nutritionist, will be the perfect way to kickstart 2016.

Founders Asad Naqvi and Rahil Malik have created SHOT, due to their own search for something more from the healthy food market. Having worked in the nightlife industry for a number of years as Music Director and resident DJ at many notable nightclubs such as, The Box Soho, The Arts Club, Annabel’s, and Tape London, Asad found the only way to keep active and stay fit through the late nights and early mornings, was through a strict training regime and clean eating. Rahil worked in Canary Wharf for 14 years without ever finding the convenience of genuinely clean and healthy food options to match the pressures of his intense work life and gym schedule. Teaming up with acclaimed and charismatic nutritionist, Alice Mackintosh, the SHOT concept was born.

Already renowned within the industry for helping clients to make positive and meaningful changes to their health without being dull or overly restrictive, Alice has applied these principles to SHOT, and will even be offering ‘Power Lunch’ nutritional consultations on selected days, for busy city workers who want to educate themselves about switching to a healthier regime. Alice has worked alongside SHOT Executive Chef, Darrin Jacobs, owner of Luc’s Brasserie (Leadenhall Market) and formally F&B Director of Café Med, to create a mouthwatering, seasonal menu that is cooked on site daily, and is entirely free from refined sugar, additives and preservatives. Also joining the project is renowned Hospitality & Food Consultant Rogers Benham, who formerly worked with Caprice Holdings and W Hotels.

SHOT signature dishes will include the likes of a Baked Sweet Potato & Quinoa Falafel, accompanied by a Cauliflower Rice Tabouleh Salad, finished with a Cucumber Tahini Mint Yoghurt dressing. As well as a Spicy Chicken Pho, made from a house made “bone broth”, sous-vide chicken, and gluten free sweet potato and buckwheat noodles. They will also stock a large range of cold press juices, health “SHOT’s”, and super-food smoothies, which will also be made daily on site.

The founders of SHOT have built the concept around a list of 10 commandments, and are committed to ensuring that these principals are always adhered to within their walls. These are:

Every ingredient counts: the menu has been designed to ensure every ingredient used benefits your health.

Unprocessed: the menu uses 85% raw, and 15% minimally processed ingredients.

Chemical free: zero artificial additives, preservatives, stabilisers, emulsifiers, flavourings, colourings.

Natural sugars only: zero refined sugars.

Good fats: only good, and natural fats. No cooking with oil.

Organic: fully organic juices, smoothies, deserts, and “Dirty Dozen” foods.

Clean cooking: only grilling, steaming, stewing, and water bath cooking.

Health benefits: the menu provides real world, and scientifically proven health benefits, from the EU register of nutrition and health claims.

Transparent: complete ingredient lists provided, with no hidden cheats.

Clean Proteins: only non-GMO, hormone free, antibiotic free, and 100% traceable, meat and fish.

SHOT’s interior will have an avant-garde look and feel, to match its progressive approach to healthy eating. Architects Wilson Holloway have created a beautifully complex and unique design that centers around a custom made Dutch tile, with the construction being carried out by creative build specialists, Aldworth James & Bond.

Asad says of the project:

“SHOT was born out of the joy of healthy eating. We commit to serving fresh, chef-made, highly nutritious takeaway meals, as well as fully organic cold-press juices, superfood smoothies and health shots. Our offering is 100% transparent, and our aim is to educate, and innovate.”

Rahil adds:

“A key aspect of our philosophy is how “clean” our food is and this is a running theme through our commandments. Consumers are increasingly, and rightly, demanding more transparency when it comes to their food: what exactly is in it? how was it prepared? does it help me? This is leading to a welcome redefining of what can genuinely be called healthy, and we plan to be at the forefront of this movement”
