Luxury hostel brand Safestay has acquired their fourth luxury hostel in Edinburgh. The new hostel, which is situated in the heart of Edinburgh’s Old Town and close to the Royal Mile, will continue to trade under its existing “Smart City Hostel” name whilst undergoing refurbishment and will be rebranded as Safestay Edinburgh in early 2016.

615 beds

The hostel, which was converted in 2001 and extended in 2007, is a 132-room 615-bed hostel and student accommodation scheme. It has 272 beds available for hostel use throughout the year. An additional 81 en-suite bedrooms, which are leased to the University of Edinburgh from September to May, are available over the peak summer months, providing an additional 343 beds and giving the hostel a maximum capacity of 615 beds. The property, which comprises 8 floors, has a bar and lounge with an outside courtyard and split-level terrace.

“Edinburgh is a top ten city for European travellers and one we have been targeting to gain a presence in since Safestay was launched,” says Larry Lipman, Chairman of Safestay. “We know the hostel well and it has an established presence on the hostel circuit and will therefore be another flagship site within our growing portfolio as we pursue our aim of developing a European network of Safestay hostels.”

Safestay is championing the luxury hostel concept whose mission is to provide a consistently high quality product and standard of service, while still preserving the individual ethos and character of its hostels.  Safestay established an industry first when in May 2014 it became the first hostel group in the world to successfully list on AIM.

Safestay Edinburgh joins Safestay London Elephant & Castle, Safestay York and Safestay London Holland Park, and the team is actively seeking new sites for further expansion.
