Following the trail of Night of the Living Dead with the zombie phenomena already spread wide across the states, a woman news reporter, her lover pilot and two SWAT members land atop a shopping mall via helicopter. They shelter inside to await salvation. But then looter bikers invade the mall bringing the zombies with them. The pilot and the SWAT marksman turn to zombies, the two remaining escape by air, thinking here goes nothing. Consumerism, commercialism, greed, atrophy, degeneration, Romero was able to put all his thoughts on society with biting criticism.
A woman and her brother visiting a grave are suddenly attacked by a zombie. Shes saved by Ben (Duane Jones) and with other humans, hide inside a house. The zombies surround them and everybody gets it except Ben who hides in the basement. Come morning, the militia arrives and mistakes Ben for a zombie. Romeros movie debuted in a time high with the Vietnam War, the Apollo missions and racism and started the cannibalistic undead craze and the rise in production of fake movie blood. It was easily the most shocking movie ever seen, and chewed itself into popular culture faster than the zombies could digest its victims.
During a zombie epidemic, Ana (Sarah Poley) escapes from home and meets a policeman (Vhing Rhames) who with several people in tow, enters a shopping mall where a bunch of paranoid security guards are in control. They secure the premises awaiting government help. Running out of options, they reinforce two shuttle buses for a getaway but the zombies surround them. They escape in a boat towards an island with grim consequences. People never expected to see running zombies that it changed zombie lore. Snyder went on to make 300 and Watchmen, but this is the one that made him.
Electronics retail store clerk Shauns (Simon Pegg) series of bad breaks started with his girlfriend Liz dumping him, followed by not getting the promotion he deserves, then theres the zombie outbreak in London. Together with his best Ed (Nick Frost), rush to rescue Liz and his parents then they hole up inside the Winchester, their favorite watering hole. Shaun is nearly flawless. Undeniably one of the funniest horror-comedy ever made.
Uninfected Britons survived the Rage virus inside a heavily militarized area called the Green Zone while all the infected starved to death. Don (Robert Caryle), who lost his wife Alice to the virus, was able to reach the zone. But then Alice is discovered alive, infected, but immune to violent effects. Shes brought into the zone. Don gets infected by Alice and spreads the virus inside the Green Zone which is methodically bombed. The prospect is obviously worse than 28 days, for 28 weeks is twice scarier or more, depending on your nervous system.
The world has gone, as the movie says, from being bad to a total shitstorm. College introvert Columbus (Jesse Eisenberg) was able to survive the zombiefication by strictly obeying a self-imposed set of rules. Among them are Cardio (i.e. keeping fit helps you run away from zombies better as opposed to fat people); the Double-Tap (make sure to put a follow-up bullet on a zombies head making sure its most definitely dead); and Seatbelts (easily, keep your seatbelts on while driving). Its the little things that satisfy, owing much to the well-written, and quotable characters. Quite simply, its a witty, delightful popcorn movie. That and arguably, one of the best cameos in the history of movies makes Zombieland, one of the best zombie films ever.
Jim (Cillian Murphy), a patient, wakes up in a hospital and discovers Britain is plagued by Rage, a virus originally from guinea monkeys that make people thirst for blood. Escaping from the city with three companions, they find security inside an army encampmentbut only for so long. While purists claim that Boyles zombies are not really zombies, the movie still appears among best zombie movie lists. The argument: Its gotta be an evolution of the zombie.
By the third of Romeros series, zombies have outnumbered humans by something like 400,000 to 1. In an underground mine guarded by an unstable team of soldiers, a woman joins a team of scientists that try experiments to make zombies behave normally. A specimen zombie named Bub showed promise and they thought they have found the answer. This false hope coupled by accidents within turn the facility into feeding hell.
Four companions travel via speedboat to a remote island to look for a missing person only to discover an ongoing epidemic thats causing the dead to return to life. The cause points to voodoo and the island doctor says everythings too late. As the dead rise from cemeteries, the four lock themselves inside a church with Molotov cocktails. They escape back on a speedboat, but zombies have already reached Manhattan. Its a cult movie because it combined Romeros flesh-hungry zombies with the eeriness of the Jacques Torneurs 1943 classic I Walked With a Zombie.
In a city run by a powerful magnate, the zombies are quarantined outside the perimeter guarded by paid soldiers. Inside, humans live a social climate of normalcy, provided for by all kinds of amenities and entertainment, including zombie sideshows. Big Daddy, a big-black zombie dude shows signs of intelligence and begins leading the zombies into an attack on the human populace. With Simon Baker and John Leguizamo.
