INDIANAPOLIS -- Oakland junior center Corey Petros (Macomb, Mich./Utica Eisenhower) has been named the Horizon League Men’s Basketball Player of the Week, while teammate Kahlil Felder (Detroit, Mich./Detroit Pershing) has been named the Freshman of the Week, for the week of Feb. 24-March 2. The award is the first of the year for Petros and seventh for Felder.

Oakland (12-19, 7-9 Horizon) split results last week, coming up short against #rv/rv Green Bay, 71-63 before traveling to Youngstown State and knocking off the Penguins, 87-81. With the win, the Golden Grizzlies secured the No. 6 seed in the Horizon League Tournament and a first round home date against Youngstown State.

Oakland took a 13-point lead into intermission against Green Bay, fueled by Petros first half play. The center notched 12 points, five rebounds and three assists. However, the Phoenix outscored the Golden Grizzlies 40-19 in the second stanza. In total, the junior center logged 14 points while going 7-of-10 from the floor. He also totaled eight rebounds in 39 minutes of action.

With Oakland needing to win at Youngstown State to secure a first round home game, Petros scored 25 points, 13 rebounds and recorded his league-best ninth double-double of the season. In total, the center shot a season-best 11-of-14 from the field and improved his league leading rebounding average to 8.2 rebounds per game.

For the week, Petros averaged 18.5 points and 10.5 rebounds per game while shooting 75% from the field.

Felder led the Golden Grizzlies in assists against Green Bay and Youngstown State, and is the only player in the league to notch multiple 10-assist games (5). At Youngstown State, Felder posted a double-double, 10 points and 12 assists, and went 5-of-6 from the charity stripe. It is his third double-double of his freshman campaign, tied for sixth-best in the league. Earlier in the week against Green Bay, the freshman point guard notched six points, eight assists.

Felder leads the Horizon League in assists per game (6.2) and is fourth in the league and first among freshman in assist/turnover ratio (2.2).

Oakland hosts Youngstown State (15-16, 6-10 Horizon) in the first round of the Horizon League Men’s Basketball Tournament. The game is set for 7:00 p.m. ET on Tuesday, March 4. Horizon League Network will carry the game live.

Top Performers for the Week:
Kelsey Barlow, UIC (Sr., G) - Led the Flames to the team’s first win at Milwaukee since 2008. Posted 18 first-half points on 7-of-8 shooting and finished with a game-high 23 points.
Anton Grady, Cleveland State (So., F) - Grady blocked a potential game-winning shot as time expired to lead Vikings to a 70-69 (OT) win against Youngstown State. With the win, the Vikings landed the coveted No. 2 seed in the league tournament. Grady also posted eight points and eight rebounds in a 63-52 win at Valparaiso.
JeVon Lyle, Milwaukee (So, G) - Posted a career-best 20 points in a 68-62 win at Detroit. Lyle scored nine of the first 15 Panther points and finished 9-of-15 from the field.
AJ Pacher, Wright State (Sr., F) - The senior helped Wright State secure a first-round tournament bye and the No. 3 seed with a pair of wins against Valparaiso and at UIC, leading the Raiders with 20 points in a 67-58 win against Valparaiso and 16 points in a 68-61 win at UIC.
Kendrick Perry, Youngstown State (Sr., G) - In Youngstown State’s loss against Oakland, Perry notched his eighth 30-point game of the season going 11-of-18 from the field. He also dished out eight assists.
Alec Peters, Valparaiso (Sr., G) - In a pair of losses to Cleveland State and Wright State, Peters averaged 10 points per game on 66.7% shooting, including a team-high 11 points at Wright State.
Keifer Sykes, Green Bay (Jr., G) - With 29 points and four assists in a 71-63 win at Detroit, Sykes moved into 10th on Green Bay’s career points and assists charts. In addition to the 16 points in a 71-63 win earlier in the week at Oakland, Sykes has now scored 593 points on the season, good for fifth in program history.
