INDIANAPOLIS -- Twenty-nine Horizon League teams posted perfect Academic Progress Ratings (APR) scores, according to data released by the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) on Wednesday. Additionally, 14 of 19 sports sponsored by the Horizon League recorded scores better than their respective national average.
Overall, the 161 teams of the Horizon League posted a cumulative average of 975.8; the national four-year average was 973. Men’s basketball programs beat the national average by 10 points, recording an APR of 960 compared to national average of 950. Horizon League women’s basketball programs posted an average of 979, while the national average was 970.
In all, 14 championship sports offered by the Horizon League - men’s and women’s basketball, baseball, men’s and women’s cross country, men’s golf, men’s swimming and diving, men’s and women’s indoor track and field, men’s and women’s outdoor track and field, women’s soccer, softball and volleyball - beat their national averages.
Perfect scores were obtained by programs in women’s tennis, men’s and women’s outdoor track and field, men’s and women’s indoor track and field, men’s and women’s golf, men’s and women’s cross country, men’s and women’s basketball and softball.
Last week, 33 Horizon League teams were among the 954 publicly recognized for posting multi-year APRs in the top 10 percent of each sport.
The most recent APR scores are multi-year rates based on the scores from the 2007-08, 2008-09, 2009-10 and 2010-11 academic years.
APR scores per institution, along with penalties per school and teams receiving public recognition, are available online through the NCAA’s searchable database.
