Welcome back to Week #2 of the One Room Challenge! It's an exciting day where I get to reveal the design plan and mood board for my home office, walk you through the design, and I'll also share the sources I plan on using in the room! Lots to discuss decor-lovers, let's get to it!!
As I mentioned last week, I was ready to ditch the bold black, white and pink office in favor of a space that was more soothing and calm. I think the office previously had a high energy vibe with lots of bright colors, but I'm drawn to softer spaces lately. Now, I'd prefer the place where I work to be beautiful as well as sophisticated and feminine.
I'm crazy over what we came up with and it's been wonderful having a girlfriend as talented as Sita to bounce ideas off of and collaborate with. We've had numerous conversations about this room and I think it truly reflects my evolving personal style. I know I'm going to love getting to work in this room everyday when it's finished!
ORC office design
The color palette is so soothing and fresh, don't you think? I've always been a fan of gold and blush pink (hello, blog design!) and those aqua-ey greens. I think the slight addition of black keeps the room from becoming too sweet.
Unlike my ORC nursery, where I designed built-in bookshelves with drawers and cabinets, there won't be any construction in this office redesign. Phew! That would terrify me trying to get that accomplished at this point in my life, and I don't think I need it in this room. So, I'm basically using a blank square space of a 12'5 x 12'5 room and transforming it with paint, new furnishings, mixed in with my existing desk and work table (it's good to keep what works when you can) and decorative items like art, mirror, pillows and drapes.
a blank slate | design vision
It took some time, but I got everything cleared out of my office so I could start with a blank slate. The black cabinet that was in here before went into the playroom/media room and the previous abstract art went to my niece. Many of you asked me where that was from, and it's from Cozamia. My mom took the mirror. All of my books and paperwork and the cabinet that was on the big wall are currently cluttering up my bedroom and I cannot wait to get organized! Everyday I walk into my room now and see that mess! You can imagine it's driving me crazy, not to mention, not a very efficient way to work!
I've repositioned my furniture to accommodate the new design, so that the desk now sits against the only blank wall as opposed to under the window. I got accustomed to looking out the window while I worked, so this will be a change, but interestingly, I find sitting facing this wall actually helps keep me focused. And it's nice not to have my back completely to the door. Now, the door is on my far right from where I sit. The two etageres will flank the desk and it will be fun to get to style those with my personal touch and of course a couple photos of my darling baby and son!
The ultra gorgeous abstract art 'Mesmerize' will go above the desk and I'm dying to see it in person! It will be a big focal point in the room at 30 x 40 inches in a matte brass frame. I'm also super smitten with the palm tree art and have wanted to incorporate a piece like that in my home for a long time.
The mamaroo isn't part of the design, but love having baby Jordan in here with me!
The white bench and pillows will sit under the window and the Braemore Fioretto Sprout fabric drapes will hang from a lucite and gold curtain rod. The brass chairs should tie-in nicely with the other gold pieces in the room. The table will come into the middle of the room more and a chest (still looking!) and mirror will go on that wall pictured below.
The chest will come in handy for storage since the Etageres are open, I'll need something to hide away things I don't want to keep out. I'm keeping in mind function and style since this room is an office where I need to be organized and get things done.
The current plain ceiling light fixture will be replaced with that glamorous, unique gold one. Ohh la la!!
To keep the room looking fresh and clean, I'm keeping the walls white and decided to paint only the trim a high gloss finish in Farrow & Ball's Lichen. That color is an olive with blue undertones. I'm thinking that painting the trim that color will tie the room together and give that punch of visual interest to make it special.
I'm giddy over getting this room together! Looking forward to next week!

I've got everything ordered (except that cabinet and mirror) and I'm still waiting to receive all the pieces. Then comes the fun of unboxing, assembling, and installing! Gotta get my hubby on board for these things and hopefully we don't kill each other in the process! I still need to paint and source and style the bookshelves too.
