Already booked flights to Bali for your spectacular honeymoon? While enjoying in a luxurious villa is a given for a romantic getaway, there's nothing like catching a swoon-worthy tropical sunset from Bali's al fresco bars with a ice-cold cocktail (or a good ol' Bintang beer, if you prefer) in hand. From swanky rooftop bars to laid-back watering holes, you'll find it all in our list of the best sunset-blessed bars around the Island of the Gods.

Potato Head Beach Club

Seminyak

Potato Head Beach Club
You haven’t been to Bali if you haven’t watched the sun go down at this iconic, glama-rama beach-front venue for the masses. Step into the Colosseum-esque building of Potato Head Beach Club and you’ll understand why this proudly Indonesian brand has become an inspiring institution in Bali. Two restaurants, a swanky beachfront bar and an infinity pool with fab views of the sparkling Indian Ocean? It’s the playground combo nobody can resist. The clever ones make a day of it, turning up by lunchtime to claim their pool-side real-estate (aka sun loungers) – but either way, get there well before the sun goes down to take it all in.
Potato Head Beach Club, Jalan Petitenget, Seminyak, Bali, p.+62 361 473 7979.

Ku De Ta

Ku De Ta
Seminyak’s original beach club is a hot spot of beautiful people and groovy, sunset vibes. This luxe, original beachfront venue (KDT to those in the know) remains one of Seminyak’s top places to see and be seen for sunset drinks. Famous for its themed parties, the club houses day beds, a trendy restaurant and serves exceptional food. Soak in the buzzin’ vibes while you sip and snap the afternoon away on a day bed. Tip for glamour girls: make a reservation the day before so you don’t wear out those fab strappy heels while waiting in line.
Ku De Ta, Jalan Kayu Aya no.9, Seminyak Bali 80361, p.+62 361 736 969.

WooBar at W Bali

WooBar
Like all legendary W Hotels worldwide, WooBar is the pinnacle of glam life in Bali. So expect world-class food, entertainment and über stylish surrounds. Enjoy a sumptuous seafood feast at the beachfront restaurant, then retire to the colourful day beds for alfresco fun in the sun(set) with good company, smooth Café Del Mar tunes, and a fancy tipple in hand. If you haven’t snapped yourself or your crew at their sunset-framed ‘W’ along the beach, you’re probably only reading about it. Check out their gorgeous, shell chandelier above the stairs, and a cheeky look at their two storey champagne cellar next to the downstairs bathrooms, for another Bali-wowzer moment. And remember – no photos on or inside the temple next to the bar.
WooBar, W Retreat & Spa Bali, Jalan Petitenget, Seminyak Bali 80361, p. +62 361 3000 106.

La Lucciola
Seminyak’s original (and possibly simplest) beach-front institution. Affectionately known as 'La Looch', this beachside, colonial style restaurant is situated along one of the most scenic stretches of Seminyak.  It’s a little bit of ‘old-Bali’ (in the best way) before high-tech and high-stylin’ took over. Here’s where you’d head for Mediterranean fare and a huge selection of wine. It’s impossible not to love this place, with its always amazing service, legendary food, and excellent views. We love that it’s probably the only spot in Seminyak with no wi-fi – just like Bali used to be.
La Lucciola, Jalan Petitenget, Seminyak Bali 80361, p. +62 361 730 838.

Mozaic Beach Club

Mozaic Beach Club
If stylish but slightly secluded sunsets are your thing, check out Mozaic Beach Club (located on the shoreline of Batu Belig, and beachfront neighbours to the W Hotel). You’re right in guessing this is the beach sister to Ubud’s legendary restaurant, Mozaic. The beach lounge menu is wide and varied to suit different appetites – graze on tapas or feast on hearty set meals. Look out for the daily sunset specials – our personal favourite is Saturday’s seafood platter of lobsters, prawns, tuna sashimi and oysters from IDR 250,000.  Stay for a while in a cute cabana around their pool area.
Mozaic Beach Club, Jalan Pantai Batu Belig, Seminyak, Bali, p.+62 361 473 5796.

Double Six Rooftop

Legian/Kuta

Double Six Rooftop
This legendary location offers a double whammy selection of either chilled sessions or big-styling events on Bali’s social calendar – but either way, you need to toast your chilled sundowner up here at least many times. Grab yourself a VIP position by booking a floating pod (an ocean-view, private table surrounded by infinity ponds) for you and your crew. Fifteen metres above sea level and spanning over 1700 square metres, this is one of the world’s largest rooftop bars.  So get ready – the music, food and drinks up here guarantee a late-night sesh.

Cocoon

Cocoon
Cocoon yourself in a cabana with cocktails and cool mixes at this über hip club. Pre-sunset, get suitably buzzed with two-for-one cocktails from 4pm to 7pm as you shimmy in your bikini to sick electro beats pumped out by both local and international DJs. Look out for the monthly Full Moon parties – those sizzling nights are for serious party-goers only.

La Plancha

La Plancha

Welcome to the mother of all beanbag bars. Decked in a spectrum of bright colours, this Spanish beach bar and restaurant is super laid-back and unpretentious. Perfect for those of us who’d like nothing better than to lay back in a comfy bean bag, and watch the sun set in our sarongs, boardies and bikinis. Tapas, tipples and killer views? Hell, yeah.

Rock Bar

Jimbaran

The rock stars of beach clubs in Bali is perched 14 metres above Jimbaran Bay on a secluded rock cliff. Declared one of the world’s best by the likes of CNN and Forbes, watching the sunset at this open-top bar with its glittering cave walls and a martini in hand (we recommend the Spa on the Rock!) is an unforgettable experience. Expect stellar international DJs helming the decks or bands playing unplugged sessions. But be warned – the line up isn’t short, so get there early for your best chance of a seat before the sun goes down.

InterContinetal Bali's Sunset Beach Bar and Grill

Sunset Beach Bar and Grill

We love the variety of open-air seating arrangements here: grab a sunset spot by the beanbags for sand between the toes, open air cabanas or bar stools at the thatched-roof central bar. Sip on a shared pitcher of sangria while being surrounded by tree lanterns and fire torches.

Ombak Sunset

Gili Islands

Ombak Sunset, Gili T
We guarantee that you’ve seen this iconic Bali sunset location in about a thousand photos on social media – two gorgeous wooden swings, amongst the middle of the (low-tide) ocean as the sun goes down. It’s the best position on the island to watch the sun go down, and there’s nothing like their happy hour specials and the sand beneath your feet, as the sun sinks in front of you.
Ombak Sunset Hotel, Gili Trawangan Island, Lombok,  p.  +62 370 644 333.

The Exile, Gili Trawangan
‘Fess up: we all love boozy nights in glam beach clubs – but a secret hideout like The Exile is great for carefree beachfront living. Surrounded by traditional Balinese bungalows, enjoy live music by local percussionists at sundown while chilling in a simple sarong. Be warned – you may never want to leave.

Then lean back to soulful jazz music while the kids frolic on the sand, as the sun slowly bids adieu.

Komune

Keramas

Komune
It’s on the East Coast so technically there's no direct sunset view here, but you can’t go wrong in this class-A location. Keep the good times rollin’ at this beach club where you can party, recharge or hang all day by the waters of Pantai Keramas. Tackle the four surf breaks up front before retiring for the evening, sun-kissed and hungry for great grub and even better views of the dimming sunlight. Or why not chill on the comfy daybeds with a drink or catch up on a movie with the beachfront cinema? The possibilities are endless here.
