IIn the scene from The Wizard of Oz when Dorothy enters the Land of Oz, she remarks to her canine companion, “Toto, I’ve got a feeling we’re not in Kansas anymore.” Leaving behind the black-and-white world she knew as home, she sets foot into a whimsical world full of color. Like Dorothy, people from the States and other countries traveling to Honduras may find themselves in a world very different from what they are accustomed to. Naturally, whether a visitor views a certain aspect of Honduran culture with admiration or criticism or something in between will depend on the visitor’s own cultural lens. However, when considering how the Honduran justice system deals with moral dilemmas, it is worthwhile to walk a mile in Honduran shoes before imposing harsh moral judgments.
