Funny, we always thought you’d need a buzz to get enough nerve up to drive a segway, period, but the rules of the road still apply whether you’re driving a car, a motorcycle or, yes, a segway on the mean streets of Norway.

It only took a month after a national ban on the two-wheeled vehicles was lifted for a driver to get picked up for erratic driving in downtown Oslo.

“I really hope we’re not risking having lots of drink-drivers on two-wheeled vehicles,” [head of Oslo traffic police Finn Erik] Groenliveien says. “These are treated like any other vehicle when it comes to the limit on blood alcohol.” Police inspector Jan Guttormsen says it’s the first case he’s heard of. “I’m not surprised, but disappointed they don’t appreciate the danger.”

Seeing that the ban was lifted in the hopes of “revolutionizing traffic patterns,” we can see why this would be a concern; no one is safe on roads packed with drunken segway drivers, particularly when it comes to the risk of peeing your pants in hysterical laughter. Very dangerous.
