It's that time of year again! Upfronts is here! As per usual, the Fall schedule is below along with my thoughts!
Thoughts On Cancelled Series:
11 shows were cancelled this season including the previously announced cancellation of Red Band Society which I am still so bummed about. The other huge disappointment for me was the cancellation of The Mindy Project. Oh, man. I am so sad. Words can't even describe how much I loved that show. Also, I was really surprised by the cancellation of The Following as I didn't realize ratings had tanked SO much! Yikes. It was a great show while it lasted. Also, I haven't watched in a long time but I am so, so, so, so, so glad that the upcoming 15th season of American Idol will be its last! Long overdue! I hope that gives room for more scripted shows and the time slots aren't filled with bad reality. Only time will tell!
Thoughts On New Series (Before Watching Trailers - Coming Soon):
First, the dramas. MINORITY REPORT is one of my favorite movies so I am going to be watching every single episode of the show. I am SO excited. It's also great to see Meagan Good back on the small screen (anyone else remember the cancelled Deception on NBC that she led and was really good?). I am SO excited! Then, there's LUCIFER. I mean...they're bringing characters to life that were created by Neil Gaiman among others so I'm totally in. DC has been much more successful bringing their stories to the small screen so I expect nothing different here. The casting here is so creepy! I love it. Rachael Harris. DB Woodside. Lauren German. Yes, please! THE FRANKENSTEIN CODE sounds like it will either be a hit or miss for me and I really hope that it's a hit because I'm rooting for Dilshad Vadsaria who I loved on ABC Family's Greek, Tim DeKay who I loved on USA's White Collar, and Ciara Bravo who I loved on Red Band Society. Only time will tell! Finally, ROSEWOOD. Morris Chestnut is in this so I'm more excited to check this out. When I think of Rosewood, I think of Fox trying and "failing" each season to get a show like this to be a hit on their network. I see the tone has changed a bit this year for the show they've chosen. I hope this is their hit. They have tried for years, so, we'll see.
As for the comedies... Tuesday is all new this Fall so if the lineup ends up being a dud, I'm completely free from Fox that night. But I am very intrigued by SCREAM QUEENS and love the cast and crew attached so I really hope that this doesn't disappoint. As for THE GRINDER, Rob Lowe is a great comedy actor but I'm not a fan of him outside of that and unfortunately the latter overshadows the former so I don't think I'll be watching this outside of the Pilot but I am excited for Mary Elizabeth Ellis being a series regular coming from It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia. I love John Stamos though and Josh Peck is cool as well as Christina Milian so you can bet I'm excited to check out GRANDFATHERED. THE GUIDE TO SURVIVING LIFE is a comedy I'm excited about checking out because it stars Meaghan Rath who I loved on Syfy's Being Human. I've enjoyed her on New Girl this season but I do enjoy her dramatic work more so I'm interested in seeing if this show will change my mind? Probably not. And BORDERTOWN was on the schedule for the previous TV season but never made it to air so it's exciting to see that it will finally make it to air. I saw the Pilot back then and am wondering if it's totally changed since. We'll see!
Finally, if you're familiar with my blog, you know how much I love musicals. So you already know that I'm super excited about GREASE: LIVE even if it does air on my birthday haha! As for THE X-FILES, I grew up watching the show since my dad watched it but I can't say that I seriously followed it or have seen every single episode. So, I must go to Netflix and watch the entire series from the beginning so I am fully prepared for the return of this classic.

MINORITY REPORT:
The future is coming. LUCIFER:
The Devil has come to Los Angeles…Based upon the characters created by Neil Gaiman, Sam Kieth and Mike Dringenberg for DC Entertainment’s Vertigo imprint, LUCIFER is the story of the original fallen angel. Bored and unhappy as the Lord of Hell, LUCIFER MORNINGSTAR (Tom Ellis, “Merlin”) has abandoned his throne and retired to L.A., where he owns Lux, an upscale nightclub. Charming, charismatic and devilishly handsome, Lucifer is enjoying his retirement, indulging in a few of his favorite things – wine, women and song – when a beautiful pop star is brutally murdered outside of Lux. Wouldn’t it be great to have a friend who has made all the mistakes in life there are to make, and then tells you exactly where he went wrong, so you don’t have to? THE GUIDE TO SURVIVING LIFE is a new comedy that explores what we all go through on our way to figuring out what life is all about. BORDERTOWN:
From FAMILY GUY’s Mark Hentemann comes BORDERTOWN, a new animated comedy about two families living in a Southwest desert town on the U.S. - Mexico border. The series takes a satirical look at the cultural shifts occurring in America, where the U.S. Census forecasts that by 2017, ethnic minorities will become the majority. Set against this increasingly diverse backdrop, the comedy explores family, politics and everything in between with a cross-cultural wink. BORDERTOWN centers on two clans: the Buckwalds and the Gonzalezes. He lives next door to ERNESTO GONZALEZ (Nicholas Gonzalez, SLEEPY HOLLOW), an ambitious family man, who has been in the country less than 10 years, but is already doing better than Bud – which, it turns out, is a bit of an issue for Bud. Bud is married to JANICE BUCKWALD (Alex Borstein, FAMILY GUY), both the wisest and most oblivious member of the family. The Buckwald kids include BECKY (Borstein), a socially awkward, big-boned geek; SANFORD (Judah Friedlander, “30 Rock”), a loser who thinks he’s a player; and GERT (Missi Pyle, “The Exes,” “Galaxy Quest”), a beauty pageant-obsessed five-year-old with a pet pig. Meanwhile, living the American Dream next door are the Gonzalezes, including MARIA (Stephanie Escajeda, “100 Things To Do Before High School”), Ernesto’s no-nonsense wife; their son, RUIZ (guest voice Efren Ramirez, “Napoleon Dynamite”); and their 21-year-old nephew, J.C. (Gonzalez), a graduate student who is engaged to Becky and frequently butts heads with Bud. As Bud and Ernesto’s paths begin to cross, their two families soon become bound by romance, conflict and, perhaps most importantly, friendship – a word that means the same, no matter what side of the border you’re from.
