At the 65th Annual Emmy Awards, Jane Lynch remembered the late Cory Monteith, with an emotional tribute where she touched on how wonderful her costar was, and how his memory will always live on.

Jane Lynch took the stage at the Emmys to pay tribute to Cory Monteith, the Glee star who touched all of our hearts and has been greatly missed since his death on July 13.

Emmys’ Cory Monteith Tribute

“It is remarkable and perhaps a little curious how fast TV shows become like families,” Jane began in the emotional speech. She touched each and every one of us with her kind words:

This summer, on our show Glee, we suffered a painful death in our family. Cory Monteith played Finn Hudson, a star quarterback, turned wide-eyed, heartfelt Glee singer. And from the first time you saw Cory, he had a star quality and a genuine sweetness that made it impossible not to fall in love with him. And millions did fall in love wit Cory, and I’m here to say that all that warmth and that charm, that openhearted quality that we love in Cory, it was no act. Cory was a beautiful soul. He was not perfect, which many of us here tonight can relate to, his death is a tragic reminder of the rapacious, senseless destruction that is brought on by addiction. Tonight we remember Cory for all he was, and mourn the loss of all he could have been. To a generation that loved Cory so, please know, this gifted and wonderful young man was worthy of your love. And if you were lucky enough to know Cory as we did, and witness firsthand Cory’s goofy, breezy sense of humor, his natural instinct for inclusiveness, and his unbridled sense of generosity day in and day out, I promise, you’d have loved him even more.

Jane Lynch: Cory Will Always Be Remembered

Jane caught up with us two nights before the Emmys, where she raved about how amazing Cory was.

“He was the quarterback on the show and the quarterback within the cast,” Jane told HollywoodLife.com exclusively at the Variety & Women In Film Pre-Emmy Event on Sept. 20. “The episode is equally about him and the Finn Hudson character — which was an amazing character. He was and always will be remembered.”

Glee‘s tribute episode, titled The Quarterback will be the third of season five, and while it will be remembering the 31-year-old, it will also be celebrating him.

“The [episode] is more of a celebration of Cory’s life, and the difference he made to us and the fans of the show,” a source revealed exclusively to HollywoodLife.com. “As much as it will be [part of the Glee season], it also feels like a stand-alone episode.”

Glee returns to Fox on Thursday, Sept. 26. What did you think of the tribute tonight?
