The Obama family excitedly welcomed a brand new addition to their family! Michelle Obama took to Instagram to ‘introduce the newest member of the Obama family’ on Aug. 19 — an adorable puppy named Sunny.
There’s a new little girl in the White House! The Obamas have just expanded their beautiful family by adopting another dog. President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama proudly announced the arrival of their new little lady, Sunny, on Aug. 19! Learn all about her right here.
Obamas’ New Dog — First Family Adopts Second Puppy
The Obama family announced the arrival of their newest family member on Michelle Obama’s Instagram on Aug. 19. “So excited to introduce the newest member of the Obama family—our puppy, Sunny!” Michelle captioned her pic of the darling pooch.
“Sunny was born in Michigan in June 2012, and arrived at the White House today [Aug. 19],” says the White House’s website. “Just like Bo, she’s a Portuguese Water Dog, which works great for the Obamas because of allergies in their family.”
The Obamas’ dogs really are members of the family — and even help out the family with official appearances!
Sunny is already being described by the White House as “the perfect little sister for Bo.” She is “full of energy and very affectionate,” the White House reveals.
“The First Family picked her name because it fit her cheerful personality,” says the White House.
A Friend For Bo
The First Family had been worried that their dog Bo was lonely as the only pup in the White House. Having a little sister to show around the Oval Office will surely keep him busy in between his guest appearances at his family’s events! According to the White House’s site:
In October, the First Lady told reporters that she hosted a “doggie play date” because “Bo doesn’t have enough dog interaction.” So now, in addition to helping with those official duties, Bo takes on the important role of big brother!
