If you read the 'Best of 2016' roundup last week, you already know that one of my goals for this year is to publish more DIY beauty recipes. I only created a few in 2016, but they were some of my most-visited and shared posts of the entire year. This one even got featured in a Bloglovin' edit, which was kind of a big deal considering it was the first natural beauty tutorial I'd ever posted here on The Blonde Chiffon.

So, cheers to the first DIY beauty remedy of 2017 here on TBC. It's one of my favorite concoctions yet, so I know you'll be just as obsessed as I am.

Let's start out with a simple survey.

Ever woken up with a total planet that somehow erupted overnight on your beautiful skin?

How about looked in the mirror first thing in the morning just to find that you actually might be Rudolph the red-nosed reindeer himself?

I'm guessing that your answers were probably yes, and believe me, I know just how much it sucks...but the good news? These Anti-Acne Green Tea Sugar Scrub Bars are gonna be a major game changer for you. Here's why:

+ Green Tea: Green tea boasts a whole slew of natural beauty benefits, but one of my favorites is that it contains antibacterial agents called catechins. Perfect for warding off acne, no? The tea has also been shown in various studies to have anti-aging properties as well.

+ Tea Tree Oil: Tea tree oil is one of my favorite ways to treat acne. According to this source, it treats acne just as effectively as benzoyl peroxide, without the side effects. Above all though, it doesn't contain the harsh chemicals that many over-the-counter acne solutions unfortunately do, but instead is an all-natural alternative and easy at-home remedy.

+ Sugar: As evidenced by the abundance of sugar scrub recipes available online (my favorites are here & here), sugar is a great natural exfoliant. This is perfect for brushing away dead skin, allowing healthy cells to take their place.

+ Goat's Milk Soap: Goat's milk soap is what really holds these bars together, but its also great because it contains hydroxy acids that can help remove dead cells from the skin. It's also high in fat content, which makes it perfect for moisturizing.

+ Coconut Oil: It's pretty much impossible to ignore the benefits of coconut oil, given that it's become such a trendy and multi-purpose product. I love it in this recipe because it hydrates the skin, which is always important to me when exfoliating.

And did I mention that these bars are ideal for cold weather? By both exfoliating and moisturizing, it's truly a two-in-one solution to dry winter skin. They can also be used on your entire body as a soap (hence the goat's milk soap base), and are particularly useful as a treatment for back and shoulder breakouts.

Now, here's how you can make the easy & useful AF bars at home:

Other Materials

+ Plastic soap mold

+ Measuring cups

+

Ingredients

+ About 1 cup solid (6 small cubes) goat's milk soap base

+ 1/4 cup coconut oil

+ 1/2 cup sugar

+ 5-10 drops tea tree oil

+ Two packets green tea

Directions

+ Mix sugar, green tea, and tea tree oil together in a small bowl

+ Melt coconut oil

+ Melt goat's milk soap base and combine with coconut oil

+ Mix in sugar, green tea, and tea tree oil combination

+ *** The goat's milk soap base dries very quickly, especially once you've added the sugar! I recommend heating up the mixture again once all of your ingredients are combined to make sure that it is totally liquified and will pour nicely into your soap molds. If it's at all chunky or too thick, it will be difficult to transfer into the molds.

+ Pour liquid into soap molds and allow to harden overnight

+ Enjoy!
