Blemish Remover Roll-on Recipe

This time of year always manages to get me to eat foods I would normally take a pass on. Let’s face it, holiday treats are everywhere! As soon as September hits it’s all about Halloween candy and then Halloween ends and it’s suddenly Christmas. Sometimes it makes it hard to politely decline the sheer cascade of unhealthy foods being offered. So for those times when you’ve indulged a bit and your skin is giving you some backlash for doing so, a quick roll-on recipe to ease the acne onslaught may be just what you need.

This recipe can be made with nearly any carrier oil that suits your skin type (be sure to read my article on the topic here) and any essential oils you have on hand sans citrus (these can ONLY be used at night so keep that in mind). To find out which essential oils work best for your unique skin type you can also check out my article here.

DIY Blemish Remover Roll-on Recipe

This recipe is really simple. You can make it in a roll-on like I do for super easy application or you can make it in a dropper bottle and use a cotton ball to apply one drop of serum over acne prone areas. The essential oils in the blend I discuss below are known for their incredible ability to kill acne causing bacteria. In fact, one of the oils is proven to be better than any other essential oil at killing a wide variety of nasty germs and bacteria. It’s even more effective than oregano oil and that’s really saying someing. You can read about those finding here.

How to Use

This blend works best on unopened freshly cleansed skin. I would definitely NOT recommend putting this blend on any type of open wound (like a picked at blemish) because it will burn like crazy.

To use it as a roll-on simply dab it on active acne legions as well as acne prone areas to reduce breakouts and heal existing blemishes.

To use this blend from a dropper bottle simply add on drop of serum onto a cotton ball or cotton swab and apply directly to blemishes and acne prone areas as needed.

I generally use this blend morning and night for best results during times of stress or overindulgence.

Why These Ingredients Work

1. Bay Laurel Essential Oil

Bay laurel is an oil that’s often overlooked when dealing with acne. However it’s an amazing essential oil to use for acne prone skin because of its antiseptic and antibacterial properties. Not only that, bay laurel is great for healing scar tissue caused by acne and is of course a wonderful oil to use for healing blemishes due to its stimulating effects.

2. Cinnamon Essential Oil

This is the holy grail of all essential oils for acne prone skin. I was absolutely amazed by how effective my skincare routine became once I began implementing cinnamon essential oil. There is very little that can stand up to cinnamon’s antibacterial qualities. It also increases blood circulation which allows the body to attack acne causing bacteria more effectively.

3. Lavender Essential Oil

Lavender essential oil for acne may sound a bit weird because we normally correlate lavender with lowering stress and calming our senses. However, lavender can actually calm our skin too by reducing redness and bringing down swelling.

4. Palmarosa Essential Oil

For those of us with dry acne prone skin palmarosa is the essential oil you’re looking for. It’s very gentle and balances sebum production while keeping the skin hydrated. It’s wonderful for healing all types of acne, even deep cystic acne.

5. Rosemary Essential Oil

Rosemary essential oil is really great for those of us with oily complexions as it helps reduce excess oil. It’s also anti-inflammatory which means that it soothes reddened skin and brings down puffiness and inflammation.

6. Thyme Essential Oil

A while back I wrote about how thyme could be better than benzoil peroxide and guess what? It is! Thyme essential oil is bar none, the best oil to use if you have clogged pores that tend to get infected. This is because thyme essential oil helps increase cell turnover which helps keep the opening of the pores from getting closed up by sticky dead skin cells.

So there you have it! Another amazing acne remedy. What have been your favorites?
