Our weekly(ish) look at who is being projected to the Redskins at pick #34 in the 2014 NFL Draft.

This post will be a place to discuss all of the projections for pick #34 that I have rounded up, and also a place to post your own mock drafts to discuss. Fanspeak's Simulator is a great tool to allow you to build your own mock draft.

The Combine is starting this week, so we'll take one last look at the draft projections for the Redskins before the Underwear Olympics changes everything.  Prospects will inevitably rise and fall due to their 40 times, interviews, and other measurables that are determined over the next week.

We have another healthy mix of prospects in this week's collection of mock drafts.  Several players like Bradley Roby, Odell Beckham Jr, Ra'Shede Hageman, Carl Bradford, and Jeremiah Attaochu are no longer options for the Redskins.  We also have a few interesting additions this week with Calvin Pryor, Allen Robinson, Ryan Shazier, Haha Clinton-Dix, David Yankey, Morgan Moses, Kyle Van Noy, and Lamarcus Joyner being added.

There is still a heavy emphasis on fixing the Redskins defense with their first pick in the draft.  This week has 4 options in the secondary with 2 safeties and 2 cornerbacks available.  There are also 2 new linebacker options this week, and Stephon Tuitt continues to be one of the most frequently mocked players to the Skins in the 2nd round.  Allen Robinson replaces Beckham as the lone WR option.  There were also a few offensive lineman options added this week for the people who do not believe PFF's assessment of the Offensive Line.  Both Moses and Yankey appeared twice in this week's roundup .

There are some very good options this week, especially on the defensive side of the ball.  I'm waiting for the mocks to start shifting to more offensive players for Gruden's offense after the combine, and expect there to be more than 1 WR and possibly a TE in the roundups going forward.  But for now, these are your options.  Who is the best option for the team, and who else do you think is an option in the draft?  Last week's fan choice was Stephon Tuitt with 59% of the vote, and he is once again an option this week.

Reasoning: "According to John Keim, the Redskins' brass expect to add three starters in the secondary, at least one starter at linebacker, and perhaps a starter in the front three of defense, in that order. The emphasis is being placed in the secondary, and for good reason; only one starter in the secondary (S Brandon Meriweather) finished the season with a grade that wasn't a double-digit negative number. Calvin Pryor is the new-age, big, physical safety (6'2") that can match up well with tight-ends. He also has good speed to cover the deep field and has a knack for the ball (5 turnovers and four pass breakups). Comparisons to Kam Chancellor may be unfair, but they have begun in scouting circles."

CBS Sports Analysis: "The Redskins must improve their defense, but they also have to focus on upgrading the receiver position. A No. 2 wideout is needed. By the way, check out our NFL Draft Team Rumors for a report about the Redskins wanting to move into the first round."

Reasoning: "The Redskins need a long-term replacement for London Fletcher. Keenan Robinson hasn't been able to stay healthy to prove he is that guy.

The 6-foot-2, 226-pound linebacker is extremely fast and instinctive. It would be ideal if Shazier could add 10-15 pounds for the pros, but he is a seek-and-destroy linebacker who has the athletic ability to develop into being an asset in pass coverage.

Shazier opened the 2013 season with seven tackles and a tackle for a loss versus Buffalo. He missed time with cramps and also was burned on a wheel route for a touchdown. The junior played better in other games, including outings against Illinois and Michigan. Shazier had a mixed performance against Clemson. He recorded 143 tackles with 22.5 tackles for a loss, four passes broken up, four forced fumbles and six sacks in 2013.

2012 was Shazier's breakout season as he collected 115 tackles, 17 tackles for a loss, one interception, 11 passes broken up, five sacks and three forced fumbles. He picked up 58 tackles, three sacks and two forced fumbles in 2011."

Previous Pick: Kyle Fuller, CB, Virginia Tech

Ha'Sean Clinton-Dix, FS, Alabama

CBS Sports Analysis:

STRENGTHS: Clinton-Dix changes directions fluidly and accelerates smoothly. He reads the quarterback's eyes well and breaks on the ball, showing a late burst to close downhill. He has plus hands for the interception and shows vision and natural open-field running skills with the ball in his hands. Clinton-Dix anticipates the run well, attacking the line of scrimmage to make some impressive stops up close.

WEAKNESSES: Doesn't have the preferred strength, at this time, to break free from blocks and isn't a consistently physical tackler, electing to grab and pull down ball-carriers rather than striking them forcefully.

Reasoning: "The Redskins are starting to feel the effects of the Robert Griffin III trade. Without those draft picks, Washington has had some trouble adding depth in the draft. Both lines need help, and Stephon Tuitt is one of the top players left on the board."

Stephon Tuitt, DT, Notre Dame

CBS Sports Analysis:

STRENGTHS: Tantalizing upside. Highly athletic frame despite massive size. Impressive combination of length, power and surprising quickness. Scheme versatility for the 3-4 and 4-3, possessing the size of most interior linemen while maintaining the quickness to provide a rush off the edge.

WEAKNESSES: Arrived to 2013 fall came out of shape following hernia surgery and struggled to dominate as he had as a sophomore. Lack of consistency was a concern as a junior.

Height: 6'6" Weight: 312lbs

Bleacher Report (Schottey)

David Yankey, OG, Stanford

02/17/2014

1

CBS Sports Analysis:

STRENGTHS: Natural athlete on the move with very good body control and lower body explosion. Outstanding shuffle footwork and lateral movement skills. Active puller with good coordination to square up his target in motion.

Sets up quickly and gets into position with good base width. Not easily redirected with good core strength and strong hands. Very good initial surge as a lead blocker through the hole. Highly intelligent with above average instincts and awareness.

Hard worker in the weight room - has added 75 pounds to his frame since his junior year in high school. Strong resume as a two-year All-American and three-year starter with 40 career starts (26 left guard, 14 left tackle).

WEAKNESSES: Will allow his pads to rise too much after first contact and needs to improve his knee bend. Bad habit of lowering his head at contact and needs to keep his eyes elevated through contact.

Needs to better control his momentum on the move to break down and gain proper positioning. Room to improve his hand placement, struggling to properly latch-and-drive. Will stop his feet at contact and needs to better sustain.

Needs to add more thunder to his initial punch. Would like to see more finishing toughness and consistent urgency through the whistle.

COMPARES TO: Ben Grubbs, OG, New Orleans Saints - Yankey and Grubbs are comparable due to their natural abilities to open up holes in the run game and make it look easy with athleticism and strength.

Height: 6'5" Weight: 314lbs

Hogs Haven Draft Profile: David Yankey

Bleacher Report (Miller)

Morgan Moses, OT, Virginia

02/13/2014

35

6

CBS Sports Analysis:

STRENGTHS: Ideal length and proportion throughout for an NFL offensive tackle. Does a good job of exhibiting patience off the snap as he routinely establishes width and good bend in his base to either absorb or mirror his opponent in pass protection. Makes good use of his long arms by extending and punching to keep defenders off his frame. Displays a fluid, consistent kick-slide when asked to track and dictate a speed rusher around the edge.

Exhibits a strong first step and impressive burst for his size, when asked to fire through to the second level as a run blocker. Powerful hands to latch and steer against opponents of all sizes. Does a good job sustaining effort and contact to the whistle, and makes a concerted attempt to drive his opponent off the block rather than simply occupying him. Impressive lower-half flexibility and anchoring strength when absorbing a bull-rush.

WEAKNESSES: Lacks the ability to stop and start with suddenness or redirect in a short area. Struggles to get low and snap into smaller opponents at the second level, and will over-pursue as a run-blocker. Isn't always decisive in space and lacks commitment at times as a lead blocker on outside runs.

Collapses at the elbow or will simply drop his head and ram his target when on the run, leaving him susceptible to whiffing or losing his balance and toppling forward. Has struggled with weight fluctuations throughout his career.

COMPARES TO: Ryan Clady, OT, Denver Broncos - Like Clady, Morgan enters the draft with plus movement skills for his size, but comes with many of the same questions that Clady did in terms of his ability to generate power enough to move defenders consistently as a run-blocker. If he can improve in this area, Moses has the upside to be a top-notch blind-side protector at the next level, as Clady has become.

Stephon Tuitt, DT, Notre Dame

Reasoning: The Redskins had one of the worst defenses in the league last year. Fixing it starts up front with Tuitt. He's a natural fit at 5-tech, and can help shore up Washington's run defense while also providing some pressure from the defensive line.

Kyle Van Noy, OLB, BYU

02/07/2014

4

Reasoning: "Perfect fit if Orakpo leaves. High character, high motor, high ability, he'll be a force."

CBS Sports Analysis:

STRENGTHS: Instinctive linebacker with excellent reaction skills. Athletic enough in coverage, showing balance and change of direction. Locates the ball quickly and provides good effort in pursuit. Impressed at the Senior Bowl with his fluidity and instincts in coverage by closing quickly to bat away multiple passes during practices.

Shows excellent play recognition, taking on blockers with the correct shoulder (allowing him to slide off would-be blockers and into ballcarriers easily) and is equally effective slipping into coverage or sliding past offensive linemen on his way toward a tackle behind the line of scrimmage.

Surprised many coaches and teammates by returning for senior season, then battled through late-season injury to stay on the field and serve as the defense's leader.

WEAKNESSES: Not an elite athlete overall. A bit slow to 'shoot his gun' when ballcarriers are running at him and relies too much on a simple bull-rush when coming off the edge. Wasn't as disruptive as a senior, in part due to opponents game-planning to avoid him. However, he was also without 2013 first-round pick DL Ziggy Ansah occupying blockers in front of him.

Relies on instincts and efficiency, rather than physicality. Beats blockers to the action, rather than taking them on shedding violently and isn't an explosive tackler. Projects best as a traditional outside linebacker in the 4-3 alignment because of this lack of take-on mentality, though he has shown the ability to get to the quarterback.

COMPARES TO: Chad Greenway, Vikings - Greenway might just be the best all-around outside linebacker in the NFL, and comparing any rookie to him is therefore hyperbole. Van Noy plays with similar instincts and efficiency, however, making plays behind the line of scrimmage as well as dropping back into coverage with impressive consistency. He isn't flashy or physically dominant, but ranks among the safer prospects in the 2014 draft.

NFL Draft Geek

Lamarcus Joyner, CB Florida St

02/17/2014

47

6

CBS Sports Analysis:

STRENGTHS: Despite his smaller frame, Joyner plays like he's 6-2 and 225 pounds, hitting like a truck in run support. He has bounced between safety and cornerback, showing NFL scouts his versatility to help out anywhere in the secondary.

Aggressive striker who only knows how to play full-speed, showing excellent timing to make plays on the ball. Plays fast with natural acceleration to go from 0 to 60 in a flash, displaying impressive closing burst. Possesses the build of a running back and loves to deliver punishing hits with his violent playing style. He also adds value as a kick returner and looks natural as a ballcarrier.

Excellent awareness and instincts with quick diagnosis skills as well as the balance, agility and speed to handle coverage duties.

WEAKNESSES: Though he plays with desirable aggression and intensity, he can be overaggressive at times, biting on fakes and allowing receivers to gain a step. While playing with no fear, does lack ideal size for safety. Where will his ideal position prove to be in the NFL?

Height: 5'8" Weight:190lbs

Previous Pick: Stephon Tuitt, DT, Notre Dame

Kyle Fuller, CB, Virginia Tech

59

7

CBS Sports Analysis:

STRENGTHS: A versatile DB with the athleticism to cover and the aggressiveness to play the run. Fuller enjoys throwing his body around in run support and is a disciplined tackler, doing a nice job beating blocks to show up at the line of scrimmage. He has smooth hips and natural footwork for an easy transition in coverage. But the game appears to come natural to him, making plays on the ball with top ballskills.

WEAKNESSES: Lacks elite speed and struggles to recover after the WR gains a step. Fuller will get caught out of position when he tries to freelance.

Reasoning: "Nothing can truly get going for the new Washington Redskins offense until they can ensure that Robert Griffin III is protected.  Guard is their biggest sore spot up front.  David Yankey is big but agile for his size, displaying plenty of strength and intelligence as well."
