There was a little too much envelope-pushing at this year’s Oscars and not enough love for “American Sniper” for conservatives’ tastes.

On a night when politics dominated the winners’ acceptance speeches — including best supporting actress winner Patricia Arquette’s call for equal wages for women, best original song winner John Legend’s blistering condemnation of the number of African American men in prisons and best director Alejandro G. Iñárritu’s immigration reference — right-leaning movie fans gave a big thumbs down to the telecast.

“Hollywood can’t help itself,” conservative movie writer Christian Toto told the Daily News after the ceremony ended.

“Every year the Oscars telecast is too long and filled with inappropriate left wing flourishes, and tonight was no different.

Toto, who runs HollywoodinTot.com, did give a thumbs up to best adapted screenplay winner Graham Moore’s speech in which “The Imitation Game” for “addressing gay rights in a speech honoring a hero who was tortured simply for being gay, and doing so in a positive manner.”

If conservatives could vote in this particular election, “American Sniper” would have easily triumphed over “Birdman” for the top prize in the movie business.

But while the controversial biopic about the late military hero Chris Kyle didn’t win best picture, conservatives point out that it won the battle for hearts and minds at the box office, having earned $ 319 million and counting.

John Shearer/John Shearer/Invision/AP ‘American Sniper’ star Bradley Cooper and director Clint Eastwood talk in the audience at the Oscars Sunday night.

“Had “American Sniper” won Best Picture (presenter) Sean Penn would have burst into flames,” fumed Breitbart’s Big Hollywood.

Perhaps most galling, though, was the best documentary film win for “CitizenFour,” a movie about NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden — a figure that most on the right see as a traitor as a hero.

Kevin Winter/Getty Images ‘CitizenFour’ director Laura Poitras and journalist Glenn Greenwald give a shoutout to Edward Snowden, who is not exactly a favorite of the right.

“The disclosures that Edward Snowden revealed don’t only expose a threat to our privacy but to our democracy itself,” director Laura Poitras said during her acceptance speech.

That didn’t sit well with Republicans.
