George Lynch, Club Cars customer product quality team leader, has these tips to help owners understand whats covered and whats not and avoid misunderstandings.

1. Read Your Warranty!

Learn the specifics of your Club Car warranty, as they differ by vehicle, and the various components may be covered for different time periods, Lynch says.

Take, for example, Club Car Precedent golf cars. The rustproof aluminum frame carries a lifetime warranty. The pedal group mechanical assembly, brake cluster assemblies and brake cables carry a four-year warranty.

The powertrain on gasoline models carries a three-year warranty. And the batteries on the Precedent Excel (electric) golf car are covered for four years, 1,000 rounds or 20,000 energy units, as recorded by the onboard computer, whichever comes first.

Note that the warranty applies at the vehicle level, not the parts level. If a tire has a warranty period of two years, fails after 18 months and is replaced under warranty, the replacement tire has six months left on the warranty.

Your warranty clearly states the serial number of the vehicle, the date coverage begins, and the details and length of coverage on each component. It also covers exclusions and actions that may void the warranty. Its particularly important to read this section if you decide to modify your vehicle, Lynch says.

2. Make Sure the Warranty is registered and Keep a Copy.

At the time of purchase, your dealer will complete your vehicle warranty paperwork, register it with Club Car and give you a copy, Lynch says.

If the warranty registration form is not completed and returned to Club Car at the time of the original retail sale, you must provide your Authorized Club Car Dealer proof of date of purchase with any warranty repair claims. Get these documents and keep them in a safe place, Lynch says.

3. Protect the Warranty by Using Authorized Club Car Dealers and OEM Parts.

Authorized Club Car Dealers staff service technicians who are specially trained to care for Club Car vehicles and use only original equipment manufacturer (OEM) parts. Using an authorized Club Car Dealer and OEM parts helps you retain your warranty, Lynch says.

4. Ask About the Warranties on Accessories.

Only genuine Club Car accessories, installed at the Club Car factory or by an Authorized Club Car Dealer, are covered by warranties. The length varies according to the product.

5. Know the Rules Regarding Warranty Transfers.

Only warranties on Club Car Precedent golf cars are transferable. The original owner can transfer any remaining warranty coverage within the first three years of the original in-service date of the vehicle to one subsequent purchaser only.

An Authorized Club Car Dealer must re-register the vehicle under the new owners name with the Club Car Warranty Department.
