This advanced training is intended for clinicians who treat eating disorders and already have basic training in diagnosis, assessment and treatment of ED. Castlewood offers this event free of charge to our preferred providers, referral sources, and those that treat eating disorder.

CEU's:

14 clock hours or (1.4 CEU's) are available through the National Board of Certified Counselors, the American Psychological Association, The California Board of Behavioral Sciences and the National Association of Social Workers.  

Castlewood Treatment Center is approved by the American Psychological Association to sponsor continuing education for psychologists. Castlewood Treatment Center maintains responsibility for this program and its content.  

Castlewood Treatment Center is an NBCC-Approved Continuing Education Provider (ACEPTM) and may offer NBCC-approved clock hours for events that meet NBCC requirements. The ACEP solely is responsible for all aspects of the program.  

This course meets the qualifications for 14 hours of continuing education credit for MFT’s, LPCC’s, and/or LCSW’s as required by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences, per approval number PCE 5221.

 

Learning Objectives:

1. Participants will be able to summarize the latest research related to the treatment of eating disorder including aspects of family therapy, client resiliency, athletes with eating disorders, co-occurring anxiety disorders and attachment theory.

2. Participants will be able to develop a comprehensive treatment plan for eating disorder clients which are inclusive of evidenced based and new innovative interventions.

3. Participants will be able to implement at least 5 interventions targeted to clients with eating disorders.

4. Participants will be able to implement strategies to assess clients with eating disorders for the following: co-occurring disorders, impairments to self-development, and impairments to sexuality, attachment deficits, life skills deficits, and body image issues.

Speaker Bios: 

Nicole Siegfried, Ph.D.Nicole Siegfried, PhD, CEDS is a licensed clinical psychologist and Certified Eating Disorder Specialist. She is the interim Clinical Director of Monarch Cove Treatment Center, an affiliate of Castlewood Treatment Centers. She previously served as Clinical Director for national treatment center for eating disorders.  She was an Associate Professor of Psychology at Samford University and is currently an Adjunct Assistant Professor at UAB. She is an international presenter in the field of eating disorders and suicidality. She is a member of AED and Co-Chair of the Suicide AED Special Interest Group.  

Ed Tyson, MD-

Dr. Tyson has been treating eating disorders for more than 20 years. After his Family Practice residency, he completed a fellowship in Adolescent Medicine, during which he had his first clinical training in eating disorders. Later, while Director of Clinics for the Adolescent Medicine Section, Department of Pediatrics at Children's Hospital of Oklahoma, he began to focus on eating disorders as a specialty. Since then Dr. Tyson has expanded his interest and involvement in this field. He is an active member of National Eating Disorders Association (NEDA), the International Association for Eating Disorder Professionals (IAEDP), and the Academy for Eating Disorders (AED) and has presented at all of those organizations' national meetings. Advocating for those with eating disorders has been a priority for him and he has worked to develop legislation in the state of Texas to mandate insurance coverage for eating disorders. He helped write the insurance guidelines for NEDA and is a member of the AED Advocacy Committee. In addition, Dr. Tyson was a catalyst for the formation of the Austin Eating Disorder Specialists and helped initiate and supports the Austin Foundation for Eating Disorders, a local advocacy group. He was a founding partner of Cedar Springs Austin, an outpatient treatment center. As an adjunct assistant professor in Health Education at the University of Texas, he teaches to both undergraduate and graduate classes about eating disorders and other adolescent issues. Dr. Tyson trains residents in both Family Practice and Pediatrics and nurse practitioner students in the care of eating disorders and his other areas of special interests-adolescent medicine and sports injuries and rehabilitation.

Jim Gerber, MA, Ph.D, ATR- Dr. Gerber earned a Master’s degree in art therapy and counseling at Southern Illinois University, Edwardsville. He earned his Ph.D at Saint Louis University in counseling and family therapy. Dr. Gerber has worked extensively with adults and adolescents in a variety of clinical areas including sexual and marital dysfunction, family therapy, sexual abuse, trauma, and compulsivity. He has published and presented papers on sexual aggression, sexual abuse and trauma. Dr. Gerber has worked at Castlewood since 2000 as a primary therapist and now as the Clinical Director for all St. Louis based facilities.

 

Katie Thompson, MS, LPC, NCC- Ms. Thompson has been a primary therapist at Castlewood Treatment Center for two years.  Katie graduated from Marquette University with a BA in Communications, Education.  She later earned a Masters of Science in Counseling Psychology from the University of Wisconsin- Milwaukee. Previously, she was a therapist at Rogers Memorial Hospital in the residential program for eating disorders and anxiety disorders.  Katie facilitates various groups at Castlewood, including all of the Eating Disorder groups, is an active participant in the research team and specializes in eating disorders and anxiety disorders; specifically binge eating disorder. Katie coordinates the Binge Eating Disorder Program at Castlewood Treatment Center and facilitates the BED groups in both the residential and PHP levels of care. She is skilled in using DBT, CBT, IFS, ERP and group therapy. Katie is trained in Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) and has earned her certification in Internal Family Systems Level 2. Katie lectures regionally and nationally on Eating Disorders, Binge Eating Disorder and treatment interventions. 

Laura Wood, MA, LPC, RDT, CCLS- Ms. Wood graduated with her Masters of Art in Drama Therapy and Counseling from New York University and is currently a Ph.D student in counseling psychology at the University of Missouri-St. Louis. She has been selected to serve on the board for the National Association of Drama Therapy as the Central Region Representative. Laura is currently a primary therapist at Castlewood Treatment Center where she facilitates individual and group therapies. Her focus areas include the treatment of trauma and dissociation, attachment, grief and loss and the use of drama therapy and expressive action based methods to treat these areas.

Christine Schneider- MA, LCSW- Ms. Schneider graduated with her Masters in Social Work from Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri.  She is currently a doctoral candidate at St. Louis University in the field of Family Therapy.  Ms. Schneider is also adjunct faculty at St. Louis University, teaching in the Department of Social Work and the Department of Psychiatry and Neurology.  Her current areas of research and interest are the effects of trauma and chronic illness on parent-child attachment.  She is a primary therapist at Castlewood, incorporating theories of attachment and interpersonal biology into her individual, family, and group work.  Ms. Schneider speaks regionally, nationally and internationally on topics related to attachment, couples counseling and trauma.  She is a member of American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy.

Chelsea Martin- RD-Ms. Martin received her Bachelors of Science degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in Dietetics. She completed her dietetic internship at Saint Louis University along with graduate coursework. Ms. Martin is a registered and licensed dietitian.  She has worked at Castlewood Treatment Center since the fall of 2011.  She started out as a direct care counselor and transitioned into the role of dietitian. She is now the Supervisor of Nutrition Services for Castlewood I and Castlewood II. Ms. Martin works with the kitchen staff and dietitians to ensure the nutritional needs of each client are met in a therapeutic way. She treats clients with all eating disorders to build a new and healthy relationship with food, body image and exercise. She was a participant in level I training in the Internal Family Systems model of Therapy.  She is a member of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics along with the Behavioral Health Nutrition practice group.
