*The game will be released in a digital format at first with content coming out for free at a later date. Players can still opt to wait for the boxed version of the game which will contain all of the content released in the digital version. New episodes will be released frequently, featuring new locations, new targets, new weapons, new story-lines, and more.

*Much like earlier games, the overall story will not be the driving force of the game, and each target will have their own story. However, the story does take place after ''Hitman: Absolution''.

*The classic blueprint type map from pre-''Hitman: Absolution'' games will return.

*The classic blueprint type map from pre-''Hitman: Absolution'' games will return.

*The AI of the game has also been improved, giving the player a bigger set of challenges to overcome, while also allowing the player to manipulate basic AI behavior.

*

**For instance, if you drop a weapon on the ground, a guard-type NPC will be alerted. After which, the weapon will be taken to an armory section, while a civilian-type NPC will run to the next guard and alert him. The AI will also have a longer behavioral loop, which means that if a fire alarm was triggered in a building, but no casualties or weapons were found during the search, then the AI (crowds included) will resume all of its previous activities as normal. Basically, the AI can now be moved around and have it's behavior manipulated by the player's actions, triggering a domino effect that will have an impact on the entire level.

**The enemy AI behaves differently depending on what 47 is wearing at the time; For example, if he is found trespassing while wearing the suit, enemies will try to arrest him, but if he is wearing the clothes of an important NPC, he might be escorted out of the restricted area instead.

*Every level will now have a specific set of NPCs marked as "observant", meaning that these NPCs will be the only ones to see through your disguises. These NPCs will be shown on the mini-map or the blueprint map.

*47 can now use a ''[[Crowbar]]'' or a ''Lockpick'' to open doors. The ''Crowbar'' will unlock doors faster, but it will alert anyone nearby. The lockpick is the obviously silent (and more time consuming) approach.

*The checkpoint system from ''Hitman: Absolution'' will not return. The player can quick save any time on the easier difficulties.

*The Instinct feature will make a return, but this time it will be severely toned down and will only show certain points of interest and highlight certain NPCs.

*In the trailer, [[Agent 47]] is seen drowning a target in a toilet during a Contracts mode assassination. The Beta reveals that this is not stage specific, and can be performed to anyone, as long as they are near a toilet.

Hitman was in development by Square Enix Montreal, a newly established studio headed by veteran IO Interactive employee of 11 years, Karsten Lund. It is now however currently in development by IO Interactive according to a Square Enix representative.<ref>http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/gaming/news/a490894/hitman-developer-io-interactive-hit-by-layoffs.html</ref>

Square Enix Montreal who were originally working on the next Hitman will now only develop games for Smart Devices.<ref>http://www.gamesradar.com/square-enix-montreal-focuses-hitman-tablet-games/</ref>

No subtitle had been officially confirmed, but there was possible trademark for the name, ''Hitman: Profession'' which was filed in Europe in December 2011. In addition, the Steam game-play stats also report that a game named "Hitman PRO" was played by a small amount of players.

Absolution game director Tore Blystad mentioned in an interview with IGN before IO took over the project IO would still be working alongside SE Montreal on certain elements of the next Hitman title. ''"They will feed off each other, as well as some things that stand out. I think with these big franchises it takes a long time to develop just one game. If you can, work a little bit in parallel at least and help each other out."''

Tore also stated rather than doing the same thing again Square Enix Montreal would have shown another take on Agent 47 from a fresh perspective.<ref>http://www.vg247.com/2012/11/22/hitman-next-game-will-take-fresh-perspective-on-agent-47-io-moves-on-to-new-project/</ref><ref>http://www.officialplaystationmagazine.co.uk/2012/11/22/all-new-montreal-developed-hitman-the-first-time-its-gone-out-of-the-house-io-already-on-a-new-project/</ref>

A rumor prevailed that three developers from IO would be moving to Montreal from Denmark to help out with the project. This was before IO announced that they would be taking full control over the project. <ref>http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2011-11-21-another-hitman-game-announced</ref>
