NASCAR, Chicagoland Speedway, and Hispanic Heritage Foundation to Award Univision’s Enrique Rodriguez During Hispanic Heritage Month

NASCAR and local race tracks are partnering with the Hispanic Heritage Foundation to honor Hispanic Leaders in four markets

CHICAGO, IL (Sept. 16, 2016) — NASCAR has partnered with Chicagoland Speedway and the Hispanic Heritage Foundation (HHF) to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month (September 15 – October 15) and recognize the contributions of Univision’s Enrique Rodriguez to the Hispanic community of Chicago.

Rodriguez will be honored during the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 400 at Chicagoland Speedway on September 18, which kicks off the 2016 Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup.

Since joining Univision in 2004, Rodriguez has earned three Emmy Awards by the Midwest Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences and is an active member of the Hispanic community. Notable interviewees include former Mexican president Felipe Calderón and 1992 Noble Peace Prize winner, Rigoberta Menchú, among others. Rodriquez has also covered Pope Francis’ visits to México City, Chiapas, Michoacán, and Ciudad Juárez. However, what Rodriguez enjoys most is volunteering in the community and sharing his story with the Hispanic youth of Chicago to encourage them to work hard to achieve their dreams.

Throughout Hispanic Heritage Month, three additional Hispanic leaders will be honored across the country at New Hampshire Motor Speedway, Dover International Speedway and Charlotte Motor Speedway. The award recognizes the commitment of Hispanic leaders to their communities and promotes their efforts by honoring them in their local race market. Each honoree will also receive a $2,500 donation for a non-profit organization of their choice.

Celebrating three years of partnership, HHF and NASCAR have teamed up to make an impact in the community through leadership, education and workforce development.  NASCAR’s commitment to the HHF mission and programs has included sponsorship of the HHF Youth Awards – Sports Category, former NASCAR driver Juan Pablo Montoya’s recognition as a Hispanic Heritage Awards Honoree and NASCAR XFINITY Series driver Daniel Suárez serving as a spokesperson for HHF’s Youth program.

“We are thrilled to team up with NASCAR and local tracks to recognize the commitment of Latino leaders during Hispanic Heritage Month in four important regions across America including Enrique Rodriguez in Chicago,” said Antonio Tijerino, President and CEO of the Hispanic Heritage Foundation.  “It’s important we present leaders like Enrique as examples of the impact an individual can have on a community and by providing the grants to nonprofits, ensuring the great work in our communities continues.”
