Attention, parents in the DC metro area: are you looking for a great family event this weekend? How about reading your favorite book at a ‘night at the museum’?

The Smithsonian (American History) will be hosting a Smithsonian Sleepover (their wildly popular kid museum sleepover) in partnership the Scholastic Summer Reading Challenge this coming Saturday, May 30th at 6 p.m. ET.

Here is a quite from Brigitte Blachere, Program Manager of Smithsonian Associates, about the Smithsonian Sleepover:

“We created Smithsonian Sleepovers to bring the Smithsonian to life for its youngest visitors. We now offer three unique experiences at three different museums—the National Museum of Natural History, the National Museum of American History and the National Portrait Gallery—so children can choose their adventure. Whether it is sleeping beneath a 50-foot whale, spending the night at the home of the Star-Spangled Banner or among portraits of people who have shaped the nation, each experience gives kids and their chaperones the opportunity to explore and discover the museum in a brand new way before the lights go out and the sleeping bags are unrolled.”

And to motivate kids to read this summer, here are five easy tips from Maggie McGuire of Scholastic Parents.
