2013-12-30

It feels like I just blinked and all of a sudden it is the last day of 2013, another year gone by. So much has happened, so many beautiful and special moments that I want to treasure and remember forever. Like most parents we try to record all these happy highlights, wonderful firsts, adorable smiles, as well as ordinary but precious moments, with our digital camera and during 2013 we have gathered quite the collection of digital snaps.

Look how much they’ve grown!

Since moving to Australia in 2006 I have really come to appreciate modern technology and not a week goes by that I don’t send my parents a few images of their grand children via e-mail. They may not be able to see the kids face-to-face but at least they can see them grow up through digital photos and Facetime. However like most proud grandparents they also like showing off their offspring to friends and family so I know they love some printed copies too.

Last January baby no.4 was still ‘in the making’

I don’t know about you but I never seem to find a moment to actually sit down, go through our digital photos and make a selection to print off, let alone make a photo album with them. It’s a shame because we have so many beautiful photos yet we hardly look at them. A few years ago I decided to make an effort at the end of each year to put together my favourite photos for that year, create a photo book online with Snapfish and have it printed for us and for my family.

Sleepy smiles and playground fun

The task of sorting through all our photos was a little daunting at first but I think I’ve worked out the quickest and easiest way to do it: First I divide the photos for the year into twelve months, that way the folders become more ‘bite size’ (so you can stop in between if you need). I browse each month separately and select up to 8 photos that really jump out to me (and that include each of the children), I copy these and pop them in a brand new ’Snapfish 2013′ folder. At the end I have a lovely collection of photos for that year, representing each month, each child and every special occasion.

My ‘stack’ of babies, one of my favourite photos of the year

Looking through the photos is the lengthy (but enjoyable!) bit, because there are so many but also because every time I have to stop and reminisce, admiring how much my beautiful babies have grown. Making a Snapfish Photo Book is actually very simple, starting with uploading your new photo folder to the Snapfish website (or if you’re a big social media fan you can upload straight from your Instagram, Facebook or Flickr account). From there you can simply drop your photos in your electronic photo book and completely personalise it to suit your taste, from simple photos to collages to words and descriptions and many other artistic details.

Our family, a year in review

This is the 5th time we have created a Family Photo Book this way and the result blows me away every single time. It is so much fun to make, there is no mess with glue, scissors, sticky tape and mistakes that can’t be fixed (don’t you hate that?), you can just shuffle, edit, chop and change until your Snapfish Photo Book is perfect. Place your order online and just a few days later your ‘handy work’ gets delivered to your door step. Our kids love flicking through our Photo Books and the grandparents really appreciate them, they make a perfect personal keepsake gift that will be enjoyed for a long time to come. Bonus: You can always order extra copies (of the Photo Book but also individual prints) afterwards.
