October 1, 2015 ndash; December 31 ndash; 2015 Public Art Exhibition on Hilton Head Isalnd at Coastal Discovery Museum

The Community Foundation of the Lowcountry welcomes you to the 2015 Public Art Exhibition, which will be held October 1 through December 31, 2015 at the beautiful Coastal Discovery Museum at Honey Horn on Hilton Head Island.nbsp; The Exhibition showcases 20 large-scale outdoor sculptures by local and national artists. The full exhibition, comprised of at least 20 pieces, takes the viewer ldquo;Around the Horn, rdquo; a nearly mile-long trail on the grounds of Coastal Discovery Museum. With views and access to two boardwalks onto Jarvis Creek and on Calibogue Sound, the path meanders through woodlands, planned gardens, a butterfly shed, beehives, as well as historic and contemporary structures along the edge of the creek. The path is lush and informal and may be picked up at any point and followed to a work of interest, for close examination and contemplation. It is an experience that combines art, nature, and a built environment in a context of discovery-rich culture.

The mission of the Community Foundation of the Lowcountryrsquo;s Public Art Exhibition is to be an important, internationally recognized platform for sculpture while educating and inspiring the Hilton Head Island community and its visitors. The Community Foundation of the Lowcountry and the Public Art Committee oversees the Public Art Exhibition. The Public Art Committee is made up of Foundation board members, staff, professional consultants, Town of Hilton Head Island staff, local arts professionals, and community activists. The Public Art Fund Committee boasts an eight-year history of planning and programming, leveraging the arts to enhance the Townrsquo;s overall livability and create a distinct sense of place for residents and visitors alike. The inaugural Public Art Exhibition on Hilton Head Island took place in the fall of 2011. There were over 300 artist applicants and over 28,000 visitors. In 2013 the artist applicant swelled to more than 500.nbsp; This is a biennial event that is supported significantly by the Town of Hilton Head Island and local businesses.
