Indulge your sweet tooth with this recipe for homemade brownies … and 60 other chocolate recipes!

I love chocolate. And I love that chocolate can be a healthy dessert – even when I’m watching how much sugar or carbs I eat, I still satisfy my sweet tooth with a little piece of dark chocolate after dinner each night. That single piece of chocolate, that’s filled with flavonoids and is good for my heart, can be so satisfying.

When I splurge, though, I choose to bake – and eat – more than just dark chocolate.

One of my favorite chocolate treats to bake is homemade brownies. I created the from-scratch recipe a couple years ago, after I had tried a lot of different homemade brownie recipes. I kept tweaking my attempts until I found something fudgy, with a bit of a crunchy top – nothing too cakey. These homemade brownies fulfill my craving.

Some nights, when my family just needs some chocolate, this is a fantastic recipe to whip up.

Ingredients

1 cup butter, melted

1½ cups white sugar

1½ cups brown sugar

1 tablespoon vanilla extract

4 eggs

1½ cups all-purpose flour

1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder

½ teaspoon salt

½ teaspoon baking soda

4 squares semi-sweet baking chocolate, coarsely chopped – or 4 ounces semi-sweet chocolate chips

Instructions

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Lightly grease a 13-inch by 9-inch baking dish.

Combine the melted butter, sugars, and vanilla in a large bowl. Beat in the eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each, until thoroughly blended.

Whisk the flour, cocoa powder, salt, and baking soda together in a separate bowl. Gradually stir the flour mixture into the chocolate mixture until blended. Stir in the coarsely chopped chocolate. Spread the batter evenly into the prepared baking dish.

Bake in preheated oven for 35 minutes. Remove from oven, and cool before cutting.
