Foundational Beliefs

Today, the term 'Calvinism', refers primarily to what has become known as the 'Doctrines of Grace', namely Total Depravity, Unconditional Election, Limited Atonement, Irresistible Grace (aka Effectual Calling), and the Perseverance of the Saints (aka Eternal Security).

➢ Prof. Dr. Martin Luther (1483-1546), B.A, M.A, Th.D, German Theologian, Protestant Reformer, Author, Professor of Theology at the University of Wittenberg, and former Roman Catholic Monk, defended the doctrines of Calvinism in a variety of books, positional papers and sermons, including his "Lectures on Romans" [25] and his book "On the Bondage of the Will".

➢ Dr. John Calvin (1509-1564), French Theologian, Protestant Reformer, Author and a principal figure in the development of the system of Christian theology later called Calvinism.

➢ Theodore Beza (1519-1605), French Theologian, Protestant Reformer, Author and student of John Calvin, defended the doctrines of Calvinism in his work on "The Fall of Man".

➢ Charles Spurgeon (1834-1892), English Theologian, Author and Pastor of the Metropolitan Tabernacle in London, defended the doctrines of Calvinism in a number of sermons, including "Human Inability" [5].

Frequently Asked Questions

Isn't Mark Driscoll also a Calvinist?

No. While many may consider, or refer to, Mark as a "New Calvinist" [3], he in fact, rejects the third doctrine of Calvinism, namely Limited Atonement, which would classify him as a Calminian.
