A team from the M1 Smart Motorway contract led by Costain working in collaboration with Aggregate Industries and WJ were able to ‘fly in’ and provide a rescue bid of their own recently.

A problem car park in Mansfield Woodhouse belonging to the Lincs. & Notts. Air ambulance organisation was completely reconstructed, resurfaced and relined. The Mansfield unit and car park provides a central hub and easy goods drop off point which then services a network air ambulance charity shops throughout the region.

Richard Paddey Costain Senior Community Relations Manager commented “Costain are very proud to be able to support the Lincs & Notts Air Ambulance.  The work that we undertook at the Mansfield Woodhouse charity shop is a great demonstration of the collaboration between Costains, Aggregate Industries & WJ’s. This project would not have been possible without the full commitment of all organisations, and we thank Aggregate Industries and WJ’s for their support.”

Andy Walker WJ Commercial Director added “WJ have developed a growing commitment to our corporate social responsibilities and immediately agreed to back the Costain initiative by fully remarking the renewed car park. The Lincs & Notts Air Ambulance service has been operating for 21 years and plays an important, often lifesaving, role in the community and being purely charity funded presented us with an ideal opportunity to show our support”

The Lincs. & Notts. Air Ambulance is a dedicated Helicopter Emergency Medical Service funded by charitable donations. Based at RAF Waddington the helicopter can reach any point in the two counties in less than 20 minutes and on average can transfer a patient to hospital within 8 minutes.

Each mission costs over £2000 and they fly at least 3 per day, most days, creating a need to raise £1.9M per annum to keep flying and saving lives.

Jim Vickrage, Fundraising Manager Notts. & Lincs. Air Ambulance commented “The teams from Costain supported by Aggregate Industries and WJ resolved a huge problem for us by arranging excavation machinery, surfacing and specialist marking services to completely restore the existing car park. The speed and quality of the work delivered was amazing and we now have a brilliant new car park with full wheelchair access because of the good will of these companies.”

WJ Group is the UK’s leading specialist road marking business dedicated to permanent and temporary road markings and the collaboration demonstrated on this project is a core value of the business.
