A woman who was involved in a collision on the M25 last Tuesday sadly died on Saturday. Her death marks the seventh fatality on Essex roads in just 13 days.

Two people died this weekend following crashes on the county’s roads.

A man was killed in a motorcycle crash in Braintree on Saturday, and a woman who was involved in a collision between a HGV and a Nissan Note on March 29 died at the Royal London Hospital on the same day.

Two people were riding a blue Yamaha trike motorcycle, a 37-year-old man and a 41-year-old woman, which crashed in Station Approach shortly before 6.20pm on Saturday. No other vehicles were involved.

Members of the public rushed to the scene and provided first aid, but were unable to save the man and he died at the scene.

The woman was taken to Broomfield Hospital in Chelmsford with serious injuries, although they were not thought to be life-threatening.

A section of Station Approach was closed for three-and-a-half hours while emergency services were on the scene and forensic investigation work was carried out.

And at around 1.55am on March 29 a HGV and a Nissan Note crashed between junctions 26 and 27 of the M25. A 34-year-old woman from Leicestershire who was in one of the vehicles died on Saturday following the accident.

Police are investigating the incident, and a 61-year-old man from Telford was arrested. He is on bail pending further enquiries until June 27.

The deaths come less than a week after a crash in Weeley on Easter Monday which claimed the lives of two people. There have also been fatal accidents in Harlow and Basildon in recent days, with a total of seven people killed on Essex roads in just thirteen days.

Essex Police’s casualty reduction manager Adam Pipe said on Thursday that 10 people died in road traffic collisions during March, but added that this was not a definitive figure for this period as some of the deaths may be the result of natural causes. They are currently awaiting the results of several post mortems.

At the time he said: “It turns my stomach that this sort of thing is happening more and more regularly. There has been a sharp increase in accidents where multiple fatalities occur, and we must do everything we can to stop this.”

Mr Pipe added: “We are seeing more and more motorcyclists die on our roads – drivers really do need to ‘Think Bike’ and keep their eyes on their blind spots. They are vulnerable as they have smaller vehicles and are harder to see.”

Less than 24 hours after the Braintree crash the air ambulance was called to the scene of another accident involving a motorbike in Essex.

It is believed a woman who was a pillion passenger on a motorbike sustained a broken leg in yesterday’s crash on the A12 near to the East Bergholt junction (J31).

On Sunday afternoon, two vehicles collided in a head on crash along the Strood in Mersea Island.

An ambulance was called at around 5pm and paramedics treated a woman suffering from chest pains.

Police would like to hear from any witnesses who saw the Braintree collision or the trike motorcycle in the Braintree area between 6pm and 6.15pm on Saturday.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Serious Collision Investigation Unit on 101 or email collisionappeal@essex.pnn.police.uk.
