IFTTT Trumps Google Alerts For Internet Marketing

I’m sure most of you either use Google Alerts or at least have heard about it. Google Alerts is a change and notification service offered by search-engine goliath Google that sends emails to you when it finds new content on the web that matches the search terms you set up.

So if you happen to be in the pot-bellied pig market (yes one actually exists) you would set up an alert on the term “pot-bellied pig” and each time Google finds new content involving that term you’re alerted with an email and link to the new content. Its a great way to keep up with everything that’s going on in your pot-bellied pig market and to get content producing and sharing ideas.

Google Alerts has been an invaluable tool with little competition. Until now. You see, there’s a new pig in town; so to speak.

IFTTT stands for If This Then That

Funky name I know but as we all know short url’s are hard to find these days!

IFTTT is a workflow tool that can really go to work for you. And its FREE!

Technically, it’s a web service that aggregates all of your web apps into one place and then performs actions given a certain set of criteria that you assign. Simply pu, IFTTT allows you to create chains of simple conditional statements, called “recipes”, which are triggered based on changes to other web services such as Gmail, LinkedIn, Facebook, Craigslist, and Instagram. For example a “recipe” might consist of sending an e-mail message if the IFTTT user tweets using a certain hashtag. Or, if the user is tagged by someone on Facebook, then that photo will be added to the user’s cloud-based photo archive.

IFTTT is a complete workflow system for the cloud. Look at how simple the interface is:

I know what you’re thinking… “Cool… so what do I do with it?”
