Features "unique Open Loop Circuit & Zero Drive"(following info got from web about the amp):

"In 1983, Akai introduced its now famous OPEN LOOP amplifiers AM and AM-U5/U7 models. Reviewers of known audio magazines, including Hifi News & Record Review, and A & T responded undivided on the quality of these amplifiers. The Total Harmonic distortion is higher than usual, but Akai dared take this step because the audible result is better than in negative feedback amplifiers with extremely low metrics".

"I recently heard an old Akai AM-U7 amplifier that is one of the very few commercial amplifiers ever made without feedback (so called open loop amplifier). It has something special in its sound, 'free' and open".

"I believe the output stage is open loop, with a very high gain and a very low output impedance (high dumping factor);basically it could drive a nail".
